Average food, not worth the price

I was majorly disapointed with this restaurant. The beer was the best thing about it. I ordered the calmari, and the fried french chicken poussin with mashed potatoes, which came recomended as a savorful dish from our server. Both dishes were more bland than eating a piece of paper. No flavor, no spices, no nothing but flour for the batter and the meat. I was very disapointed seeing that my whole meal with my husband included came to 84 dollars and I hardly ate anything. My husband had the pork chops, which were sub par as well. My suggestion? Only serve beer!

5 Seasons Lost the Luster

I used to be a huge fan of The 5. Not anymore....

I went there last week with my father and daughter. I was excited to be there as it has been a while since my last visit.

The place seemed dirty, unkept and worn out. I ordered a fried wanton or something that was supposed to be filled with a crab and cream cheese filling. It tasted like nothing more than deep fried cream cheese. I could not find a trace of crab in the dish.

I also ordered the marinated olives. The quantity of olives were rediculously stingy. They were ok....but I've had just as good olives from the Publix deli.

I also ordered the margaritta pizza. It was really poor. There was hardly no cheese, tomato or herbs on it. I would have been better off grilling some flatbread over my car engine.

Do you see a common theme here? Looks to me like this place is hurting and is trying to save itself the wrong way.

The grilled rice ball was still very good and just as impressive as I remember. Then again....how much does it cost to make this dish? Furthermore, there's not much the owner can do to cheapen this dish.

Here's the real reason I took the time to review this place. I asked the waiter if my appet. was supposed to have crab in it. He said that it had plenty. I told him that I thought the menu claimed it to have crab but that I did not notice any.....that it just taste like cream cheese. He rudely stated that he worked there for 7 years and knew for a fact that it had "pureed crab" in it as he walked away and dismissed my displeasure with the dish.

I asked the hostess to see the manager. I told the manager that I would like a new waiter. I told her how he acted and she started to handle everything fine. Then one of the owners came and got it my face and started off on me that he owned the place and that the dish had crab...blah blah.. Very rude, Very confrontational. What an idiot. My biggest prob. was how they handled themselves...not the cheap food.

Recommended, for the beer.

Man the appetizers here are b*u*l*l*s*h*i*tz. I ordered the quail appetizer, and I had about enough meat with all of the pieces to obtain a full bite. Honestly, if you want amazing food go to Taco Bell. The beer here is ridiculous. It is awesome. I had the hopgasm, and I exploded in my pants! This brewery, being a local brewery, is great. The woman who asked for an imperial stout and was denied, I am sorry, I know how you feel, but please marry me?! I am in love with you! Anyways, this place was crowded and the bartender was nice and attentive, but go during the week and I guarantee you will get AMAZING service. This place has great beer, but the food, as far as I can tell, isn't that great. Have fun.

Grudging service, middling beers and expensive food

First, I found the most lacking element was courteous service. When I enter a pub, especially one not overly busy, I expect to be greeted and asked my pleasure. I found my own way to the bar where there were only 3 or 4 other patrons, yet it took me 10 minutes to get a notice from the lady tending bar. Her replies seemed grudging and perfunctory, usually replying over her shoulder while walking away. It left me feeling unwelcome. I finally gave up trying to either ask her questions or give her orders.

But I came for the beer, and this is what the review is about, right? Here are my impressions:

Copperhead ESB: Not an ESB. Lacking in almost every English character. Overly hopped with Cascade and so stuffed with caramel malts that it tasted like a Sugar Daddy dipped in pine tar.

Festbier: Their Oktoberfest offering was lacking in any melanoidin richness and had a strong soapy character and evident dicetyl notes. Perhaps it was forced and hasn't lagered long enough or maybe I just got a glass that hadn't had the dish soap rinsed off.

Helles: Finally a beer to style with strong Tettanang hop bite and just the right low malt breadiness and a slight melanoidin richness. Slight astringency in the finish. Their most mainstream beer, but a nice example.

Tripel: Not on the menu, never offered to me, but she poured it from a secondary set of taps and I spotted her doing it, so asked for a sample. 15 minutes later I got one. I shouldn't have bothered. It had a strong orange aroma, like Tang, and the flavor was of sour honey with distinct fusel high alcohols. Dark and still too sweet for the style. I didn't even finish my 1 ounce taster.

I also had the calamari appetizer. A cereal bowl of calamari was $10 and 75% of the bowl is filled with fried onion bits. I had been planning on eating dinner here, but bailed after just the appetizer. It would have cost me at least $50 to eat here if I had a salad and an entree.

BEST BEER IN TOWN... FOOD IS OUTSTANDING

My wife and I had the great pleasure of dinning at the 5 Seasons. Located in Sandy Springs, the drive was a little too far for us, but we had so many friends recommending this place to us that we couldn't pass. The restaurant is big, with a bar and pool hall area separate from the main area, which it a haven for the smoker who wants to sneak a cigarette and not have to leave the premises while enjoying a beer. The food is outstanding, the menu can very well please pretty much anybody,from rib eye steaks, fish and chips or the suggested "pan seared red snapper with chives and a lemon zesty foam... " delicious!! It is really surprising to find this type of a menu on a brew pub.. an actual really good surprise.

The beer is absolutely marvelous. I tasted their sampler at first (5 4oz glasses of what they have on tap), where my wife was able to pick a lighter .. not LIGHT.. beer , the "7 Sisters", a red lager that came on a large mug ( 20 oz ). I had the Dark Scotch Ale , served on a smaller glass, since it had a much greater alcohol content then the others. I also tasted the Sledgehammer, a pale ale with a kicker, a bit hoppy.. highly recommended to the IPA lovers.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere, since it doesn't have the midtown attitude and is not as morbid as Alpharetta. The wait staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, with some real character working there!!

My wife and I had 3 beers each, the meal and dessert ( bread pudding, just as good as everything else, also recommended by our server) and our check was a little under $100 with a 20% tip. Highly recommended!!

Good food at a decent value, their beer is okay and overpriced

Just tapped at 5:55pm on Thursday 1/17/2008 (standard protocol there for new beers), it was a good tasting expresso imperial stout, but I wouldn't rate it as high as some others have. Don't get me wrong, it isn't bad, but it isn't super great either. At $6.55 for a SMALL tulip glass, it isn't worth writing home about. I was disappointed I guess because I expected a lot more. Their food was good and a decent value, but their wine selection was on the bottom of the totem pole (cheap quality wine for an expensive buck!) and their beer was overpriced for what you get in my opinion. I had 2 beers, one appetizer and a $12 pizza (I shared food with others to sample their food) and my bill was $40 including tip. Ridiculous!

Great service but bad food....

So....this Friday, we (a duo consisting of my food connoisseur mate and I) gave Five seasons a try....

Is there an option to rate this 0 out of 5? Atmosphere was alright, if you like it dark. The smell of the place

when you enter the restaurant reminded me of moldy wood. Now....the food... Organic? natural?....It was bland, that's what it was...smelled bad - We had Fried French Chicken and Fish and Chips. The food was not only hilariously greasy....but the fish smelled like it was taken right out of the fish pond in the back and dipped in some thick oil and batter. If you like your food with no spices, no salt, no pepper, nothing....but the bland taste of whatever the main dish is. This place is it. Too much for the money. Personally we will never eat there again.....

Though I will add that the staff was nice, nothing wrong with the people working there...Courteous and cool...I personally just felt bad at how the food was there....

Great beer, wonderful service, but needed a snorkel for the sauces...

After reading the other reviews about the service I would have thought we were at a different restaurant. Our server (I think his name was Adam) did an excellent job of not only covering the specials and all food questions we had but was also very knowledgeable about all of their beer. The atmosphere was wonderful but possibly a bit noisy (not bad for a bar, but not the kind of place I would want to have a meeting or a date with my wife). Parking was painful as part of the parking lot is under construction and with the way it is set up they almost force you to valet your vehicle. The beers we tried were absolutely top notch and I would go back again just for them if nothing else. Our only complaint was about the food. Almost everything we saw on the menu was organic which was a nice surprise. For appetizers, we started off with edamame and the scallops from their small plates selection (basically like tapas) . The edamame was perfect. The scallops were cooked perfectly but then the plate (luckily not the scallops) was drowned in a very strong sauce (probably 3-4 oz). They were still great scallops as long as you avoided too much sauce. For dinner, we had the Filet au Poivre and the Lamb Tenderloin. The filet was a generous portion (2 x 1 in. medallions) and cooked exactly as I ordered. The pepper they crusted it with was a bit heavy handed (tasted it for hours afterwards) and again, the plate was drowned in sauce (3-4 oz at least). Were I to order it again I would ask for a light peppering of the steak and the sauce on the side. The lamb was a bit overcooked based on our order of medium rare and had a proper amount of sauce but the sauce had such a smoky flavor as to be almost overwhelming. The lamb was still very tender but was medium to medium well. The portions were very generous but even with my rich Copperhead ESB beer it was not able to cut the sauce/pepper on my filet. I will be going back but I will be making sure to ask for sauces on the side next time.
