delicious

by hd_atlanta at Citysearch

I love el myr. The food is consistently awesome (i ALWAYS get the fish tacos...they're irresistable). You HAVE to try the cheese dip if it's "in season". The service is a little slack, but friendly. It doesn't bother me though. It's an excuse to sit there and chill. Just don't plan on dining in if you're in a hurry. Another bonus - they have Woodchuck Pear Cider on tap.

  • Pros: great food , laid back atmosphere
  • Cons: service can be slow, no lunch cheese dip, smoky at night

Delicious

by jasperfforde at Citysearch

I've been twice so far, and was very happy with the burrito specials I got. They were huge and stuffed with potatoes and beans. There was a fair beer selection and a bar. They carry Sweetwater 420 and Sierra Nevada Rye, as well as the PBR most customers seemed to order. It was a little small but I didn't have trouble finding a table.

Most customers were hipsters or punks, and the slimy guys at the bar were pretty gross and rude.

  • Pros: unique food, cozy atmosphere
  • Cons: surly staff

All right-

the quesadila's rock!

I especially love the salsa verde.

Also the servings are huge for the price-

and I always leave full and happy

  • Pros: mostly delicious food
  • Cons: uneven service and annoying hipsters

Yay!

Pretty much my favorite restaurant in Atlanta & cause it's so cheap I can afford to come back frequently. The food & drinks are consistently great. The only drawback is that it can be really crowded before a show at the Variety Playhouse (next door).

  • Pros: Great food, great, strong drinks, killer juke box, good srvc
  • Cons: sometimes too crowded...

You win some, you loose some...

by Squeezul at Citysearch

First off, let's just admit here and now that the food is on the, oh, pretty delicious side. You can't go wrong with a quesadilla, burrito, or massive soft taco. Seriously well flavored and stuffed with filling. I wish the chips were better, though. They usually taste like they came straight from a Tostitos bag--very dry and overly salty.

My beef with El Myr is the service. They once told me that all the waitstaff waits on all the tables as a collective effort, which in theory seems like you'd recieve incredible service. How wrong. Inevitably, it takes forever to get your order, refills, silverware, etc. We usually have to grab menus ourselves then hope that someone stumbles by the table to drop off the cheese dip before it's congealed too badly.

  • Pros: Good burritos/tacos/quesadillas, interesting clientele, gnarly neighborhood
  • Cons: Waitstaff ignores customers, chips are funky, no non-smoking areas

Find enormous vegetarian-friendly burritos and deadly delicious margaritas in Little Five Points.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Beat up but comfortable, this tiny bar and dining room is as much of a lounge as it is a burrito joint. Service is pure-bred slacker: You either get ignored in a friendly kind of way or you get ignored in a contemptuous kind of way. Late nights bring out the serious boozer element.

The Food

Don't come here expecting to find hard-core cantina fare. The tip-off is a note on the menu proclaiming: "Each burrito comes on a whole wheat lard-free tortilla." The menu offers significant options for vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters. Hefty burritos are better than the quesadillas, with top marks going to the chicken burrito, the green chili and potato and "The Breakfast." Wash it all down with a chilly pint of the Dayglo agave margarita madness.

Burritos that Can't be Beat

by beveragebetty at Citysearch

I must say, El Myr does it right. Why go to a chain restaurant when you can go to El Myr and end up with a burrito that not only tastes better than those other guys, but can also count as two meals because of its monstrous size? Their food is very well-priced and I simply love the low-key, bar atmosphere. The patio offers additional seating, so it usually isn't an issue, unless you try and trek over there on a Friday or Saturday night. One last comment: if you plan on eating there and you know there is a show at the Variety Playhouse, either get there really early or you'll be hard-pressed to find any seating.

  • Pros: burritos, food in general, beer prices, music
  • Cons: smoke, crowded at night

I crave it fortnightly . . .

by old4thwardgal at Citysearch

Eating an El Myr taco, burrito, or quesadilla is treating your mouth to a very reasonably priced party. The vegetarian options are outstanding- the Green and the Black Olive, Corn, and Potato burritos are tasty and huge and quite filling. Any item involving the fish or the chicken is also worth a try if you partake of the meat. I'm sick of people complaining about the "surly" wait staff. Most of those folks have been working there since the turn of the century, and the regulars love them.

Check the Variety Playhouse (concert venue next door) show schedule before you go- El Myr is always packed if a reasonably well-known band is in town and the parking will be scarce.

  • Pros: Addictive food, good tequila selection, excellent juke box
  • Cons: Can get crowded, loud, and smokey

For Smoker's Only

by sferd at Citysearch

I had not been to El Myr in a long time, so I was surprised that it is now a completely smoking restaurant. Normally, I would have left immediately, but we were meeting friends. The restaurant has delicious guacamole, hot salsa, and good cheese dip. We ordered a pitcher of Texas margaritas (with Cuervo tequila added) for only $21. Good, strong margaritas. We had to leave when one of our friends showed up with her child--children are not permitted due to the all-smoking policy. If part of the restaurant was non-smoking, I would definitely be back. But, I will never go there again.

  • Pros: Good Guac, Hot Salsa, Strong Margs
  • Cons: All Smoking

The Zeitgeist of Atlanta

not only the "spirit" of Atlanta, but also the counterpart to San Francisco's famous bike-messenger metal bar! but only Elmyr can claim native sons Mastodon among its dedicated fans...

  • Pros: always fun, stiff drinks, best jukebox
  • Cons: smoky, crowded
