Tasty food and reasonable prices

by 2truefoodie

Girls night out...we tried quite a few things.

Crab and artichoke dip was very creamy and not as thick as expected but tasty; didn't come with enough bread for the amount of dip

There was a quesadilla that was very fresh and yummy

Pasta Jambalaya - was okay, but had too much chili powder or paprika in it which made it taste more Latin than Creole

Lump Crab Cake Sandwich with fresh spinach and Cajun remoulade; with garlic fries was so very good...would definitely recommend and would order again. Garlic fries? Oh yes!

We did have drinks, but they were not memorable.

Overall the food was really good and I would recommend and go again.

  • Pros: great food, atmosphere and prices
  • Cons: bar drinks could have been better

Disappointing and Confusing establishment

by OTPcritic

Outdoor seating was comfortable and spaced well. Waitress was neutral, not bad but certainly not memorable either. Our bier order was served quickly and was reasonably good tasting and served at a pleasing temperature.

The first thing we noticed was the menu was all over the place! This chains food options offer no clear identity. We had choices including: Teriyaki Flat Iron Steak, Sesame Tuna with bok choy, Tuscan Chicken Pasta, Meatloaf, Cajun Pasta, Spicy Shrimp Stir Fry with asian vegetables, Pasta jabalya, Mazen BBQ Burger. I felt like I travelled the world just through reading the menu.

After careful study, neither of us really knew what we wanted from this hodge-podge menu that haplessly tries to satisfy every taste. We were uninspired and chose the basic staples of a New York Steak Sandwich (with signature Garlic Fries) and a Mushroom Swiss Burger (also served with signature Garlic Fries). I understand, you are questioning my "critic" status at this point...think about it, at this point we "are" making a critical statement about Gordon Biersch's.

In a nutshell, both sandwiches were ok. Well, we think...for explanation please continue...

Signature Fries...Garlic Fries. Wow, let me say that again, Wow! Upon ordering, I was actually kind of excited about the garlic masterpiece. After receiving our plated delivery, our hopes drown quickly. The fries were literally soaked in pretty much raw, strong, garlic chunks and juice. They were awful, simply awful. As mentioned in my "cons" this is likely the worst food I have ever been served in a restaurant. Signature? Wow! The generous pile got returned to the kitchen...err garbage disposal. My partner 100% agreed with the assessment and contributed to the Midtown landfill also.

Back to the burger...It was reasonably good, I think. My mouth was so filled with strong, uncooked garlic odor that I really couldn't taste the burger and thus can not accurately provide a quality review on it.

We hoped to recover with a good dessert and had our eye on chocolate peanut butter pie. On this night, our waitress indicated that was not available. We opted for some Dairy Queen Ice Cream which helped reduce the garlic breath. Upon returning home, a good brushing with ample toothpaste helped too.

  • Pros: Hefeweisen was tasty
  • Cons: Garlic fries may be the worst food I've ever been served

Great Staff, Bad Menu and food execution.

by TravelingConsultant

A relative and I tried this establishment on a Tuesday evening. Valet was nice, we were quickly seated, and the server was pleasant. The menu was a mish-mash of different cuisines, with no real theme. When you read an item, it sounds appealing, then they throw a curve ball during the description (Fish & Chips with a Cajun remoulade?) I couldn't tell if this was an asian inspired menu, pub menu, BBQ menu, steak house, or pizza joint.

The beer was descent, but I'd rather go down the street with a huge beer selection. The desert menu was nothing to write home about. Your standard chain Sysco bought desert options. One last thing that I believe might have ruined the evening for me, was the Garlic fries. These fries were so overpowered with Garlic, it over shadowed the NY steak sandwich I had ordered. If you LOVE Garlic, order these fries. If you are on a date, or plan to be in the next month, skip the fries.

  • Pros: Location,
  • Cons: Garlic Fries, Menu, execution of food taste.

Do Yourself a Favor and Steer Clear

by macbjg

We are big brewpub fans. While visiting Atlanta we have had many good experiences at 5 Seasons.Gordon Biersch, on the other hand, was an unmitgated disaster.A sign of bad karma was the valet parking attendant shooing us away because the lot was full. This was made more curious the sandwich sign in front that read "immediate seating available."In fact, the joint was empty. Our server, a friendly little thing, had little to contribute, advising that the "pretzel coated tilapia" was "very popular" and the Mexican egg rolls were "nice."Believe me, the food was not worthy of being on an Appleby's menu! More on that later. It appeared that the kitchen and wait staff were in a hurry to get home, though we sat down at the table at 8:00 p.m.No sooner had our drinks come that we had our appetizers. Before my wife could even ingest a spoonful of her crab and lobster bisque our entrees were delivered.Recognizing that our meals would languish under a heat lamp as we ate our appys (or being coated in saliva by the woeful wait staff) we did not send them back. When asked if the contemporaneous delivery of drinks, appetizers and entrees was how this dive operates, the waitress politely offered "oh, I did not realize the entrees would come out so quickly." The food is easy to characterize: industrial. My fish was no more than a dry filet coated in crushed nuts and bread crumbs that tasted like it had been prepared in a company kitchen many weeks earlier, frozen and reheated for me.Pretzel crust?Maybe I don't know what a pretzel is.The pizzas were, well, the kids picked at them if only not to waste food.My wife's fish and chips were dry and tasteless. Are you listening Mrs. Paul? Finally, this is a brew pub.So, what about the beer. The flight of beers was tepid and uninspiring as if on a Milwakee's Best brewery tour.During Ocktoberfest, yet.The bock beer resembled something served at a fraterninty party--the next morning. In short, Go to 5 Seasons and be grateful you did.

I LOVE THIS PLACE

by tonic563

Gordon Biersch has the best food, and beer in Midtown. The prices aren't very midtown either. I love going here and sitting by the bar. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. Last time I was there I had Erin as my server and she was so sweet. She was super knowledgeable about the beer, and food. I would definately recommend asking for her. If you're in a rush to get to get to The Fox, you should sit at the bar because the bartenders are so much fun and they will accomodate to your time schedule. My favorite beer there is the Martzen. All the beers are brewed right upstairs so the quality is amazing!!

  • Pros: The service, food, and management
  • Cons: The valet can be kind of annoying

Visual flair and fusion fare distinguish this upscale beer hall from smaller microbreweries.

by Contributor

In Short
Airy, industrial decor lends a lighter, more urban feel to Gordon Biersch than most beer halls. The bar may get crowded after 5pm, when a happy-hour crowd hoists a few pints of seasonal Bavarian-influenced beers. A menu of fusion and New American dishes include beer-friendly offerings like shrimp and chicken pot stickers, Moroccan-spiced lamb chops and the signature garlic french fries.

Awesome food and great place for quick service

by spls0827

My family has been coming here for quite some time and discovered this place after attending a play at the Fox theater. It is a restaurant and bar setting that is good for all types of people. It is kid friendly as well. The beer samplers are great and the humas is wounderful. The portions are above average and service has always been excellent for us. Definately a place that we will continue to go for a fun night out.

Garlic fries are good

by dita9876

I cannot recommend GB for their service, because it is always very slow regardless of how busy they are. The only thing that I can say is that the garlic fries are pretty good. I have been here about 4 times for lunch with a group of co-workers and we get the same, slow service everytime.

  • Pros: fries
  • Cons: service

Food is not all that great!

by gkc

I have been to GB several times and I got the asian salad one time, which was okay. Then the next time I tried the crab cake sandwich. It tasted like a frozen crab cake. I was very disappointed. Although I do have to say they have the best fries! I will come back for the fries and beer but not the food.

  • Pros: fries, beer
  • Cons: crab cake

Can't go wrong with GB

by paule123

As always, food is above average, good service, good location for people watching on Saturday night. Calamari, BBQ Salmon, Hanger Steak, goat cheese ravioli among my favorites. Beer is great too! I travel nationwide, and all the GB locations are a reliable place to get a quality meal, casual or dressed up, and have a fun time.
