Atlanta's answer to Central Park is the top sunny-day destination for intown residents.

In Short
This centerpiece of Midtown sports spacious lawns, paved pathways, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, a pool and two ponds--not to mention a postcard view of Midtown's pointed peaks. Framing the scenery on either end of the park are the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Park Tavern. Trivia buffs should note the various statuary and memorials of local history. Piedmont Park is the mecca of outdoor activities in the city proper, and it continues to improve. Ongoing renovations have not only restored the park's resplendent emerald lawn and serpentine path, but a 53-acre expansion of the park and the renovation of the old stone bathhouse, dubbed Greystone, will carry the park for future generations. As Atlanta's see-and-be-seen playground, the park is often jammed to near capacity on weekends.
Nice park for people watching, go elsewhere for a dog park

It is a great local park for a picnic or group gathering. It's a great place to people watch, too. However, you should be careful of the high number of serious roller bladers. Also some people might describe it as a dog heaven. I don't. The dog park at piedmont tends to have a mixed crew of owners. Some are mindful of their dog's behavior, but there are some that will go into the park with a known aggressive dog, un-neutered dog or dogs in heat. Some people do not watch their dogs while in the park. This can lead to many problems. Case in point--the chow dog that was attacked/killed a couple of months ago in the park. If you love your dog and want to go here, take a taser gun.

Piedmont Park is like a little Central Park in Atlanta. There is a really great distance you can run. I also really love the dog park area. The park is always very clean and I always feel very safe running there.

This is a beautiful park for walking/jogging, sightseeing or picknicking. I personally do not like the fact that people allow their dogs to run around without leashers. If you are a dog lover - this is the place to see a fashion show of every breed of dog. There are plenty of benches and green spaces to spread a blanket, sit back, relax and enjoy the sights. If you have young children beware because there are plenty of gay/lesbian couples enjoying the park as well.
Loved it.

My boyfriend and I went to piedmont park around 11pm on a saturday. We were unsure whether or not the park was still open but it was. We didn't explore too far in the park because we saw some swing benches overlooking water before it got too late. I loved it though, very peaceful and quiet. It was the first time I went and I really enjoyed it. Hopefully one day I'll go again with my boyfriend when it's day time and explore a bit.

Growing up in Atlanta during the 60's, the Sunday afternoon drive was a ritual. My parents would drive us through Piedmont Park, around the lake--Yes, back then you could drive around the lake. People of all races, backgrounds and sexual orientations, would all come together, for a Sunday in "The Park". And sometimes on Saturday's, we would go swimming in the pool. Phillip Law Olmstead designed the park, as well as Central Park in NYC. Today it's strickly pedestrian friendly, pets included, and continues to bring all Atlantan's together. It's the heart of the city!
- Pros: Heart Of City Escape, No Automobile's!
It's the "City" Park

As a recent transplant to the Midtown area, a dog owner and a budding exercise acolyte, I'm fast falling in love with Piedmont Park. Good jogging/walking track, nice scenery, great view of the Atlanta skyline, cool pet area. And it's close to my home, mellow mushroom, the highlander...I haven't been excited about a patch of real estate since I was a young 'un exploring the woods across the street from my house (eventually developed into a mall, alas).

Favorite event: Bark in the Park--ASO's free dog-friendly concert. Also check out the roller skating jammers.

I like Piedmont Park because it has a lot available. Soccer fields, a public swimming pool, a little pond where kids can fish, running/cycling/rollerblading trails, and lots of area to just do whatever. It's becoming more family oriented and is a great place to take a picnic or something.
