WOW, how to dodge a bullet.
My husband and I needed new carpet for our first home .... NEEDED new carpet.
We were uneducated on carpet having never shopped for it before. All we knew was that we wanted a short shag carpet / twisted with fleck in a beige tone.
I came across Dalton Carpet's website which was very helpful and of course, I was interested in the 18month same as cash financing that the site boasted. Also, I learned about their anti-microbial padding and was interested.
When we pulled up the show-room, I was surprised to see a sign boasting 12 month financing. I was disappointed, but 12 months was still doable.
We walked into the store and the sales people seemed uninterested in our presence ... seeming more interested in their private conversations than us.
We started wondering around the store looking at the samples and styles for a couple of minutes when a installer came up to us and asked if we needed help.
He told us that we didn't want to look at samples because all of those needed to be ordered, what we wanted were overstocked brands and styles in the back. We looked at three types ... at the time we thought that he was doing us a huge favor by saving us some money.
So, we took the samples home and set up an appointment for a measuring of the house. When the installer came to the house and started talking to my husband, he told us that they didn't have 12 month financing, only 6 month financing. Which is weird since it was painted on their store front as 12 months.
We came to a conclusion about our carpet choice but I wasn't so thrilled about the quality ... but the installer had told us that shag just comes like that ... dense pile was for plush carpet not shag. He also shook his head when I talked about anti-microbial padding, telling us that we were out of our minds for wanting it ... but if we REALLY wanted it, he could order it ... instead, suggesting the 8lb pad.
We decided that we REALLY just wanted fresh carpet so we would make the 6 month financing work .. I sent my husband to the shop to put down the down payment because we were told that if we didn't put down for it, it would go quickly. He called me from the store, frantic that they told him that it wasn't 6 month financing, but 90 days financing. Being in the store, he pointed toward the window that showed 12 month financing .. they said that it was old and needed to be updated. I told him, whatever .... he felt pressured to pay up front, which would put us in a tight position financially.
Luckily, my husband is even tempered and doesn't give in when pressured, so he told them to forget it and walked out. That's when he stopped at Carpet Depot on the way home. They didn't pressure us, and took the time to educate us on carpet styles and pile. Gave us a great deal on high quality carpet ... apparently they do make high-pile shag. : /
In the end ... we feel as though Dalton was operating a bait and switch, sucking us in with the idea of high quality at 18 month financing and then trying to sell us on 3 month financing for crappy quality masquerading as mid-grade.
Please see my review for Carpet Depot ... they got 5 stars. I feel as though I escaped from a REALLY bad deal. I have to kiss my husband for making the right decision in this case.
