Ernest Changed My LIfe, I Mean My Hair – I went in to Joseph & Friends one Friday afternoon to get shampoo. Ernest ended up helping me & taking the time to discuss my current cut. He spent quite a bit of time with me & gave me great advice, so I called Saturday morning to book an appointment. Ernest was able to fit me in that same day even though he was completely booked.
I haven't been so happy with my hair in a long time & Ernest took time to discuss styling with me as well. Ernest was amazing & I look forward to going back to Joseph & Friends!
Best Hair Experience of my Life – Just moving down to GA from NJ, I still had not found a hair dresser. My mother-in-law suggested Joseph and Friends and I decided to at least check it out. I was going for a drastic change (taking off almost 9 inches, and drastic and difficult highlights). I made an appt. for a consultation and was blown away by the moment I stepped in. The reception staff was cheerful and sweet and the atmosphere was comfortable and pretty luxurious ;o) I was introduced to Ernest who would be consulting with me.
After showing him a picture of what I was looking for and discussing color, I was excited, BECAUSE HE WAS! Hair is art to him and I absolutely trusted him from the second we started talking. He made me enthusiastic about the change.
When I went a day later to get it all done, I was treated like a princess. Between all of the staff being absolutely sociable and polite, Ernest was AMAZING. He took a before shot of my hair and I was on my way.
After all was said and done, he loved it so much he had a make-up artist do my makeup, for no charge, in order to take more pics of the after. I felt like a movie star. When my husband saw my hair, he was blown away, the color was JUST RIGHT, and the cut was better than the picture I showed him
I will NEVER go anywhere else for any of my beauty needs..they have it all and they are just incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and most importantly TALENTED!

Learn From MY MISTAKES! – Joseph and Friends: Alpharetta/Milton Location
I certainly should have known better after my initial contact with this salon, however against my better judgment I gave them not one chance but TWO.
Experience 1: "Receptionist VS. Stylist"
As a new client and not knowing whom to book my appointment with I literally found myself in the midst of a scheduling war between the receptionist and stylist neither of whom seemed to be listening to my needs as a customer.
So after this beyond awkward experience over the phone I called the salon to cancel my appointment and speak with the manager to inform her of the situation. In speaking with her she apologized for the situation and convinced me to come and have my hair done by her personally. Feeling a little less freaked out; I took her up on the offer. I came in for a partial highlight and left feeling like it looked great.
It wasn't until I was home that I realized she missed major parts of my crown in the back as well as spots where she had dripped the color!! SO frustrating and certainly not the work of an experienced manager of a salon!
Experience 2: "Should have Known Better"
Not sure what I was thinking going back to this place. I was in dire need of a haircut and it is super close to my house?
So, even after my terrible first experience I returned to Jenn for what I thought was a simple trim. I have been growing out my hair for about a year and went in to have my ends cleaned up so my hair would look and feel healthier. I explained this to Jenn and she questioned me on why I want long hair and told me that SHE thought we should cut it into a bob type style. I told her that I have had this style many times before and do not want to go back to it. Jenn proceeds to tell me that my hair is very thin and long is not a good style for me (NOT TRUE, it is FINE but it is far from THIN- red flag!). Next, while shampooing my hair she asks what my favorite Aveda shampoo/conditioner is. I tell her I have been using Color Conserve (That I bought from per HER recommendation last time I was there) and I don't like it because it leaves my hair feeling dry and very tangled. She says "that makes sense because it has a lot of protein in it, which probably isn't what you need" (red flag!)
We get back to her chair and the nightmare begins....Jenn proceeds to give me the "style" that SHE wants for my hair, never mind that I have already nixed this and told her I am growing my hair out! Not only did she cut my below-shoulder length hair to my chin, she cut it bluntly and straight across and then for more "style" she "graduated" (her words) the back!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I held back tears and tried to be as polite as possible for fear that she would launch another attack on my already defenseless hair.
Lesson Learned the Hard Way:
Needless to say I will not ever return to this salon and will encourage others NOT to go there. I went there initially to save money and because it was convenient to my home. I will go back to my more expensive salon in Buckhead where they know a thing or two about hair, listen to their clients, and act professionally.
FINALLY! – I started going to Joseph and Friends in Roswell before moving to Cumming in 2004. I always loved my hair but I didn't have the time to make the drive. I'd been searching for a great salon ever since and haven't had ANY luck until I asked a neighbor of mine where she got her hair cut. She told me that she went to Joseph and Friends in Johns Creek and saw one of their top stylists who was also the salon educator. I decided to call and make an appointment. When I got there, my stylist talked to me for a long time about what I wanted. She really listened to me! I came out the happiest I have EVER been with my hair! Not to mention completely relaxed from the great shampoo and free chair massage I got before my haircut! Thanks to Nicole at Joseph and Friends, my search for a new salon and hairstylist is over! I have my confidence back again!
141 Best Salon yet! – My excellent experience started when I called in to book an appointment. The girl on the phone was so positive and helpful. She was patient and a good listener she was recommending stylists and times for me. It just got better when I walked in for my appointment. The receptionist who scheduled my appointment introduced herself and offered me something to drink and magazines. I didnt even sit down yet when my stylish stylist came to get me. She was spunky and excited to get started. She gave me a chair massage and a soothing relaxing shampoo. My haircut was even came out exactly want I wanted actaully better. And she gave recommended cute color ideas for my new cut next time I come in. I couldn ask for anything better. Thanx Joseph! I will be back and bring my friends.
Worst Manicure and Haircut in Lifetime – I was unpleasantly surprised. The nail technician used cuticle instrument upside down entire time, leaving 90% unclipped. Used acetone to clean polish from skin on every finger. Really messy "paint job." Took twice as long as regular nail salon. Observed a client get a razor cut when she requested a layered cut. Will probably never refer anyone. The NY salon is much better.
great experience – I visited Joseph and Friends in Johns Creek, for the first time, in October. When I called to book the appointment I was put on hold at first, but the receptionist apologized and ended up being very helpful! Based off of what I said I wanted, she recommended a stylist that she thought would be best for me. I chose a technician in the middle price range ($50).
My first visit was great! The stylist was very knowledgable, patient, and sweet. The rest of the staff was nice, as well. My hair cut was great! The stylist really listened to what I said and taught me how to style it myself.
I just went back this week for a second visit. This time I brought my son, too. He got a hair cut with one of the newer stylists--$35. This visit was even better than the last time! I love my hair! My son, believe it or not, really likes his hair (he's 12, so, that's rare-lol). We both look very stylish!
I highly recommend this salon! I have been very impressed, so far, with everything!
Great Salon – I have a habit of doing "drop in" hair appointments to places that catch my eye at times. Having just moved to the Martin's Landing Area, I had been eyeing this Aveda salon, tucked in amongst a few great places my husband and I had eaten at. (And I don't mean the Wendy's!)
I was cruising home after a 12 hour night shift at work and a few hours of sun by a friend's pool when I decided it was time for haircut...at least.
After being a little nervous to walk in to this upscale looking salon in my yoga pants and T-Shirt, I was pleasantly met by not one, not two, but THREE smiling faces clamoring to see what fun I might be up for today.
I walked out with my classically stick straight, fine short hair in a fantastic perm completed by Kim, a hairsylist with enough crazy tales to keep you entertained (and awake!) in your seat for hours. I didn't even mind chillin' in the little "perm" room for smelly heads like myself.
Sam, a perky hairstylist, did my initial "dead end" before my perm and discussed possible colors for me later in the year.
After a quick trip to the wash bowl, pre perm, I recieved a fantastic 10 minute shoulder massage from Donna, which was an everwelcomed treat!
Overall this was a fantastic "drop-in" and I will be returning there often for all my hair care needs.
Mostly good stylist s - bad customer appreciation – I found this salon to be perfect for me when I first moved into the area 3 years back but after constant rising prices every time I went in "due to more training," a bad hair cut, and poor customer relations, I decided to stop going. I am not a picky person, either - I go with the flow and like to experiment with cuts and color so am usually complacent with whatever happens with my hair - it will grow back, right? The 2nd to last time I went, I made an appointment with a "new" stylist because I needed a trim and needed it sooner than the 3 week wait. He made me feel uncomfortable - he was too touchy feely. He gave me an unsolicited shoulder and neck massage. He also seemed to not really know what he was doing. When I explained how I wanted my hair trimmed (he asked), I used terms my normal stylist (who was not there that morning) used and he kept asking me to explain them which really bugged me because he should know the terms. When I left the salon I was ok with what he did. Then I went on a trip the next day and discovered that the hair on one side of my head was shorter than the other! I kept thinking it was because I part my hair on the side, but when I parted it down the middle a huge area of hair was missing! When I got back from my trip, I made an appointment with my normal stylist - she agreed my hair was not cut properly. She fixed it then charged me full price. Perhaps I should have asked but I thought she would at least charge me less than the normal price or not at all. She made me feel not welcome - which was odd since I have always felt comfortable around her. Those last two experiences combined with the constantly rising haircut and color prices made me finally decide to look elsewhere. One other experience I had also factored in my decision. I accidently knocked off and shattered a glass Aveda bottle displayed on shelves 3 feet in front of the register - they charged me the full price ($40) of the bottle! I thought that was extreme.
Unnecessary Pain – Joseph & Friends sees itself as a step above -- a little pretentious but normally with good technicians. It is more expensive than some of its counterparts who do an equally good job. The bad part is that the technicians think they can do no wrong. I went in, and the technician doing my hair was in such a hurry to leave that she used the hottest setting possible on the dryer and burned my scalp so bad that I screamed, not once but twice. Any concession for the pain? No. It's not the money that upset me so much -- it is that someone who injures a client should be willing to make some concession, or the client can go somewhere else. Believe me, I will. It's not as if they care whether you come back in. I'd rather do business with someone who values my business.
