Hidden underneath Pura Vida in Poncey-Highland, Super Pan is a Latin sandwich shop run by the chef from upstairs, Hector Santiago. The tiny space has a secret society feel and the sandwiches are exactly what you’d expect from one of Atlanta’s most decorated chefs: they’re as interesting as they are inhalable. While creative renditions of tuna salad and Chinese-style pork buns give the limited menu variation, go with the chef’s roots. The Medio Dia is a Cuban with gourmet upgrades (roasted Berkshire pork, habanero mustard and vinegary chayote pickles) while the Coca de Jamon y Queso goes the sweet and salty route, pairing buttery-soft Serrano ham, thick sliced Manchego cheese with date butter and arugula. Both are worthy of halting conversation. So grab a bag of plantain chips, a Mexican Coke and meet a new neighbor at one of the communal four-tops. Then, plan your return visit.
