An Atlanta original since 1974, El Toro has grown from one of the city’s only Mexican restaurants, to a family-owned chain that includes this cozy spot in Grant Park. Despite multiple locations inside the city limits, El Toro does comfy Tex-Mex, suburban-style: giant portions, hard-shell tacos, mariachi bands (you get the picture). But for those looking for a well executed Combo #4, El Toro gets it done. Chips arrive warm, salsa is spicier than you expect and platters are generous for the price tag. If you want new-school bites, hit Taqueria del Sol, but if you’re hankering for Americanized Tex-Mex that will remind you of childhood, look no further.
