What Our Expert Scouts Say

March 14, 2013

One part restaurant with amazing drinks, another part late night club with the city's foremost house DJ's, there's always a party going on here. The oxtail tacos & steak tartare are my go-to choices on the menu

Great food, cool atmosphere!. I truly enjoyed my visit last night! I had the lamb meatballs for an appetizer and they were delicious. The cheese platter was also very, very good.

I love the laid back vibe and the drinks are AWESOME! The spirits they choose for their cocktails are not the run of the mill and WOW does that make the difference. If you like a little sour please, please, please try the "Near Dark".

The interior is so cool and it just a great place to meet up have some drinks and get a really good dinner.

Please go and enjoy!

Horrible service, mediocre food. I wish that I could include the letter that I wrote to the restaurant but there isn't enough space here. In short this was one of our worst service experiences ever.

No one greeted us when we walked in. When we finally got the bartender's attention he told us to stand "right here" and the host would be with us when he got back. When we were finally seated the host filled our waters and left us there. By the time the server finally made it to our table we had decided on our wine, our appetizers, our entrées and had even googled tasting notes for the wine. We told him that if he was ready we could give him our entire order. He agreed and took our order. He came back 5 minutes later to let us know that they had just 86d the meatballs we ordered. No big deal. He then came back a few minutes later to let us know that they were also out of the wine we ordered. Whatever, we ordered a different bottle. About 10 minutes later we finally receive our wine. 5 minutes later, here comes our appetizer... along with our entrees. When we told the food runner he told us that it all came in on the same ticket and that we had to speak with our server! By the time the server made it over to check on us we had finished the appetizer and the one entree that wasn't too cold to eat. We asked him to heat up the hanger steak so we could finish our meal. Now imagine how surprised we were when they actually heated up the same dish and brought it back to us. It was now to well done to enjoy. We asked for our tab and when it finally came the appetizer they had 86d was still on there. We couldn't get anyone's attention to get it corrected. When we saw our server getting ready to open a bottle of wine for the table next to us I decided enough was enough. I left the table to go and find the manager. When I finally found him I let him know what our experience was like and that all I wanted was to have our check corrected so we could leave. He merely said that he had no support staff and that they were too busy because of scoutmob! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we felt as if we were imposing on the staff and that they would have been happier if we had never come in.

My advice is to stay away from this place. I have yet to talk to anyone who has had a decent experience here.

Cool Addition to a Cool 'Hood. Kickin' it in the always-interesting Old Fourth Ward, The Sound Table is part bar, part restaurant, and all cool. Plop down at the swankily modern bar downstairs, bob your head to the DJ, and enjoy one of the many Great Gatsby-esque cocktails such as the Moscow Mule, the Sazerac, or the Pink City Rickey. Or head upstairs to the dining room for a bit quieter evening and order from the interesting and something-for-everyone menu. Their motto is "Sit down. And listen." Do as your told, and you're sure to have a great time.

Outstanding style and execution from Top Flr’s sister spot.. In Short
A second addition from the Top Flr folks, The Sound Table takes the same gourmand-driven philosophy and applies it to a two-story, minimalist gem in the Old 4th Ward. It’s set up in the same fashion as Top Flr: bar downstairs, dining room upstairs and a pointed, internationally driven menu. Falafel, Mexican street corn and Chinese-style green beans all seem mundane on the surface but blow you away with the execution. The same can be said for the grilled chicken with lemon or pineapple tofu. And there in lies the genius. Sound Table magically takes a menu that boasts basic dishes from every corner of the globe, with the only common consistency being how damn good each one is. Throw in a remarkably affordable prohibition-style cocktail and consider the night off to an excellent start.
