Great Location, Great Food, Friendly Neighborhood Vibe. On the corner of Monroe and Piedmont (in the space formerly occupied by Caribou Coffee), Hob Nob has some prime patio potential, not to mention great food and a cool vibe. The soft pretzel is an appetizer must-try. It's everything a soft pretzel should be: warm, salty, buttery and served alongside a cup of gooey cheese sauce. The poutine gravy fries are another not-to-be-missed nosh. Black pepper speckled gravy drenches each fry and half-melted curds of mozzarella cheese are sprinkled all around. Balance out all that fattening goodness with the healthy "BASE" salad of baby arugula, apples, spinach, endive, dried cranberries, and pecan-crusted goat cheese served with "hob nob" dressing -- a dressing that's light, flavorful, and ever-so-slightly sweet (Seriously, I'd dip EVERYTHING in this stuff if I had a bottle of it). For an entree, the pork shank is delicious. It's braised in Sweetwater 420 and served up HUGE and on-the-bone, looking like a meal fit for Fred Flintstone and tasting like pure pork heaven. The kicker, though? The chicken pot pie. This is the pot pie that all pot pies should aspire to be. The secret is the smoked chicken, which they smoke in-house. Add some creamy sauce, vegetables, and a flaky crust, and you're set. I'm still dreaming about this dish.
