So good, it makes other Atlanta Steak houses nervous.. Most people who know me, know that I am proud to be a New Yorker, and am a huge fan when my hometown favorites make their way down to ATL to bring the city a new treat to choose from for their foodie obsessions. So with the addition of BLT to the W downtown, I knew things were looking up. Specializing in meats, this chic eatery provides you with everything you’re looking for when it comes to a fabulous night out on the town. Extravagant ambiance, fantastic food, and an attentive wait staff. Plus, the general manager is also a passionate sommelier, so I recommend working with him to pick out the perfect bottle for the night. The restaurant offers the standard a la carte options such as burgers, steak, duck and more. With delicious sides including creamed spinach, gorgeous onion rings, hen of the woods mushrooms (if you’ve never had these before, it’s a must, the most incredible mushrooms you will EVER have), and more. The restaurant also offers a pre fixe styled menu, with items special for that evening and not available on the regular menu, but done in a chef’s tasting kind of way, so you know you’re going to be extremely satisfied. During my visit there was lamb on the menu, which was melt off the bone good, and made for incredible sandwiches the next day topped with the leftover hen of the woods mushrooms and creamed spinach on BLT’s famous popovers. Oh, did I forget to mention the best part? Silly me. If you thought you knew bread, think again. One bite of the BLT popover, and you will not only be hooked, you will go out of your way to somehow end up downtown just to bring some home. While free with your meal, these huge treats only go for $2 a pop and come with BLT butter, and they even send you home with the recipe to attempt to make it yourself. Insider tip: Check out their 5 for 5 happy hour, where you can get apps and drinks for $5 a piece, and their "Bar 2 Bar" menu from 5-7pm, enjoy $2 oysters, $2 oyster shooters & $2 handcrafted Flying Dog Pale Ale, sweet.
A highbrow steak restaurant that’s as cool as it is classic. Standing for Bistro Laurent Tourondel, the successful restaurateur who has high-end joints all over the globe, BLT Steak is his first Atlanta venture tucked in the swanky-mod W Downtown. Warm aspects like a blackboard menu and masculine skillet-ed entrees are wrapped neatly into the hip, open space. The menu matches old-school offerings and new-school presentation. Ahi tuna gets stacked into a tower, as does the volcano-resembling onion rings. Steaks are topped with a slab of garlic butter that oozes its way as you carve, turning the sizzling skillet into a buttery base. Arriving promptly with every meal, the signature giant popovers are light, fluffy and somehow taste as if a delicious bakery aroma was encased inside. With on-point service and a killer wine list, it’s a meat-market for modern times without abandoning classic elegance.
Bring Lots of Money, Get Great Steak!. Atlanta has many Ist class steakhouses, with my favorite being on Piedmont Rd. Any Atlanta foodie will argue with you, about who has the best steak. Enter BLT Steak, at the glam W Hotel Downtown. Star chef Laurent Tourondel brings his clubby, gleaming wooded floors, and a glass wall featuring a well-stocked wine room, to this elegant room. Service is right on. Tops for us were the Porterhouse, New York strip, and the braised short-ribs. You can pair them with different sauces, we chose peppercorn and Bernaise. And had roasted tomatoes, and a great grits with Gorgonzola. Why stop now? We finished with banana and date pudding. Don't ask how much this feast cost, maybe again next year. Damn good!
