Beware the Tune-up "Special" (updated) – Update (5/13/11): 2 new techs came out and checked some things, replaced a capacitor and showed me the readings, very friendly and explained everything in as much detail as needed. I am now very satisfied with the service they provided. If you need service from this company, try to get Steve or Kyle, they are outstanding.
Update: The owner called himself and has offered to make things right by sending out another tech.
I received one of those Money Mailer coupons for a tune-up for $59. I called and was told that it would be a 15 point inspection. The tune-up for $59 is the technician removing the cover of the furnance unit, looking around (no tools), turning on the A/C, going outside and checking the coolant levels. The air filter was not even replaced as the tech didn't have a standard 14x25x1 filter. I don't know how this can be considered a 15 point inspection/tune-up, unless you count footsteps. (I was able to get a slight discount for the tech not having the filters, but I had to ask for it). He also said the coolant level is low so he added 1 lb of freon at $48/lb. Basically, the checks that are done at this level do not warrant a "professional," you're better off doing the checks and changing the filter yourself.
Best service in town! – Simply put, Milton Heating and air is hands down the best service i've ever received on any type of home repair. Yesterday (10/15/09) I had my gas turned on in my new to me house, and the gas company had an issue with the furnace. So I got on Kudzu, looked for a HVAC company in Alpharetta with a 5 star rating and found Milton HVAC. I called and spoke to lynn, gave her my address, and literally, 5 to 10 minutes later Curtis was there. He ignited my pilot light and discovered my heat exchanger was cracked. I asked him about my options and decided I needed a new furnace. I asked him to write me up a quote for a mid-grade unit. He said he would once he got back to the office and email it to me ASAP. Less than 10 minutes later, Lynn called me with a very attractive offer. Lynn was so kind and easy to deal with on the phone that I didn't even bother price shopping their quote and agreed to do the work for today.
Lynn's son Chris came out this afternoon and had the install knocked out in a matter of hours. I had told them that I was tight on time for today (I am getting married this weekend!) and they said they could do it in my small window of time, and they stuck to their promise.
I will without a doubt use Milton heating and Air again. My AC unit is 24 years old and will probably be needing replacement soon. When the time comes, I'll be calling these guys, and no one else.
