What People Are Saying About Serpas

In Short – Lodged in the Old Fourth Ward, Serpas True Food is like Two Urban Licks with a little bit brighter decor and a menu built for a post-dinner snooze. Neon boldly flanks theentrance of Auburn Avenue's Studioplex lofts and a full-scale wall of glass overlooks a stunning view of the Atlanta skyline. To add some warmth, an adjacent brick wall, railroad trestles and a custom-poured bar ground the swooping space. The menu is heavy-handed with Louisiana decadence, a sort of American menu that loves its Southern-Bayou roots. Pigs and blankets arrive sizzling in a skillet rather the…
Editor's Tips
- What to Drink:
- The wine list is the epitome of simple--half a dozen or so whites and reds, all $25 a bottle or $6.50 a glass.
- Parking:
- Those on a budget street park on Auburn, those with an extra couple bucks can avoid the walk and valet.

Fresh Brunch, kind of expensive
by shert
This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but is really cute and nice. Has an industrial feel inside and it feels like it's farm fresh, not sure if it is though. The Bloody Mary was completely fresh and really good. The french toast was good but not worth $14 or so it cost. Overall a cute place to take someone visiting but not some place I'd go to regularly.
- Pros: Fresh, atmosphere
- Cons: Expensive
Good Food, Bad Customer Service
by Cecelia Smith
Serpas is a chic spot with good food, however their customer service, and their treatment toward their guest is horrible. I made reservations for a dinner party and was almost forced to have a planned menu because I was thinking about 15 guest. I was told that they had a small kitchen and needed to be prepared for us, and that is standard for other restaurants, which I know is not true because I planned dinner parties at restaurants almost every year and this was a first. After discussing this for a while the owner said if I had 13 or less guest I would not have to have a set menu. The menu they were trying to force on me was a five course meal, which I was not going to make my guest pay for if they didn't plan on eating that much food.
Reservations were made for 12 guest and we arrived at the restaurant and got seated after the group arrived. The waitress came and took drink orders and appetizers. She brought back some drinks and took forever with the rest. I finally called the manager over to check on the rest of the orders. The manager brought them out with no apology...nothing. Dinner orders were placed and it took forever for them to bring our food out, and I mean a long time. The food finally was served. We received the tickets and one of my guest was charged for bread she ordered, but never got. Come to find out the bread was served to another guest on the other end of the table who ordered gumbo. She thought the bread came with it since she didn't order it or ask for it. It was a form of soup, so why not we thought. The guest who ordered the bread and did not receive it brought the charge to the waitress attention to remove it, so the waitress sent the manager over. The guest who ordered the bread didn't even see it on the table and the guest who got it with her gumbo didn't know the other ordered it, so we didn't question it at the time. The two guest where on different ends of the table. The manager came out and debated with my guest about the bread being brought out and eaten. He didn't take responsibility for it being given to the wrong person who had no idea she wasn't suppose to have it. The bread was $2, the manager was debating with the customer about it. He finally decided to say He would take it off if it would make her happy. That is what he should have said and done when he first walked out, and an apology along with it.
Also, Serpas charged me $2.50 to plate each of my bday cupcakes that they didn't plate, and they charge $2.50 each, to slice a cake if you bring that in. They try very hard to get every dime they can get from you.
This is the experience my guest and I had, and hope yours is better if you try this spot after reading this review.
- Pros: Good food.
- Cons: Very bad Customer service & very slow with orders
If you like great service, SERPAS is NOT the PLACE
by NO MORE SERPAS
Serpas was randomly selected b/of all the hype, however, I was extremely dissappointed. I dine out quite a bit and was disgusted that our party of 10 had to wait almost 30 mins for a waitress to appear AFTER being seated. After taking our drink orders, we had to inquire multiple times as to when our drinks will come...finally, the manager took our orders again and brought over our drinks. The dinner order was the same experience. My assumption is that since they include a 20% gratuity for large parties, they don't owe you even mediocre service. If you have lots of time to waste, don't care for an attentive server, and enjoy rude management, this is the place for you!!!
- Pros: Decent food
- Cons: Horrible service and unprofessional staff
Good Food, Great Drinks, and Awesome Atmosphere
by pamelaisanchez
I recently went to Serpas for dinner with two of my friends. I chose it because of it's recent review in GQ magazine. The restaurant itself is gorgeous - I love the interior decor and the beautiful stone wall. We were about 20 minutes late to our reservation but they sat us down right away. It took a little while to get our waitress over to the table but after she took our drink orders, she was extremely attentive and friendly. We were really indecisive about what we wanted to drink and eat and she really helped us. I had the Lemonade to drink first - it was so good I couldn't even taste the vodka. We ordered the eggplant hushpuppies, the calamari, and the mushroom and brie flatbread that were all good! Very different - my friend though the calamari was too spicy. We were still hungry so we then ordered some mashed potatoes and I ordered the corn soup which was delicious - it also had crab meat in it. I ordered the spiced orange drink which is one of the best drinks I have ever tried! I will definitely go back to Serpas!
- Pros: Amazing Drinks, Attentive and Friendly service
- Cons: Food is GOOD but not amazing
Fantastic new Atlanta Restaurant
by DenaG
While home for Thanksgiving my family was excited to share their new restaurant find: Serpas True Food. We had a fantastic meal. 3 of us shared the house salad with blistered grapes (my first time eating a yummy blistered grape), pecans, cheese and a tangy dressing and the mushroom/brie flatbread to start. I had the scallops and they were perfectly prepared and the sauce has a great spicy tang that wasn't overwhelming. My folks had the maui-maui and both raved about it. The fried Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream was the perfect end to our meal. I drank the Peachtree Ice Tea (sweet tea vodka, peach juice and lemon) and could sip those all day long. The chef is from New Orleans and his food reflects some cajun roots. Can't wait to visit Serpas again on my next trip to Atlanta.
- Pros: Delicious spicy food and dessert, great service too!
- Cons: noisy when the restaurant is full
