Sweets for me? Nah--sandwiches.. First off, I'm not a sweets guy. I'm a sour guy. And while folks love the Joli Kobe Bakery for their sweets, but I bumrush their Midtown location for one reason only: their ham and cheese sandwich.

This glorious monster boast not two, but three slices of bread. Reason? Our guess is that the third slice is to help sop up some of the gooey-good cheese. Laced with not only Gruyere but Bechamel (a sort of French fondu situation), the cheese has a little bit of bite to it, that perfectly accents the salty ham.

Since this is a bit of a gut bomb, I go with the house salad for a side. Which also happens to be pretty damn good. Take note, friends.

A stones throw away from La Pietra Cucina just north of 17th and Peachtree, this immaculate bakery's second location in Midtown creates some of the most exquisite French pastries in all of Atlanta. And the delicate pains au chocolat, fruit danishes, eclairs, rum babas, tartes, mousses and meringues taste as good as they look. In addition to sweets, Joli Kobe bakes crunchy baguettes, sweet rolls, made-to-order cakes and a selection of Asian treats like red-bean buns. Sandwiches go gourmet-style wearing both Japanese and French influences. The ham and cheese sports a snappy gruyere and béchamel, while the almond curry chicken is an Asian take on a chicken salad sandwich. Channeling Tokyo-street bakeries, a sarkling display case offer a wide variety of interesting and sometimes imported drinks options, and quick to-go packages.
