Current hot spot in midtown. The crowd is always well dressed. It never used to be hard to get in, and lately I think they create a line on purpose by not letting people in. My friends and I like to start the night there with a drink or two before heading out to other midtown bars. Drinks are very pricey. Biggest downside is the bar service is very, very slow. I have waited 15 minutes when there were not that many people there to get the bartender's attention. They are more concerned with having good looking bartenders than those that can productively turn out drinks.
The W Hotel's lobby bar is built on flash, with signature cocktails that back up the bling..
In Short
In the spirit of decadence, one fancy bar wasn't enough for the trendy W Hotel in Midtown. The lobby-level little sister of Whiskey Park boasts a similar LA-exclusive style, VIP expectations and heavy weekend crowds. Velvet ropes guard CIA-styled doormen, who display a keen eye for those well-dressed enough to get in and those too mangy to keep out. Decked in deco-furniture and warmly lit by a wall of illuminating, Fred Segal-style shrubs, the patio is a magnet of eye candy for 14th Street motorists. Not to be outdone by the stylish digs and patrons, sexy cocktail waitresses slickly work the room, looking and talking like perfectly bronzed flight attendants from the future. The cocktails are like the crowd--expensive, attractive and appropriately accessorized.
