Chef Todd Richards made be new in the kitchen but he's made waves in Atlanta for years, even gracing the pages of Esquire magazine. His dishes are elegant and the vibe is relaxed in this neighborhood restaurant. Don't hesitate to ask for wine suggestions.
Take Me to The Shed- Again & Again!!!.
When I wrote my first restaurant reviews two years ago it was The Shed at Glenwood Park, at that time it was attempting to discover its identity; the community of Glenwood Park was mostly vacant space as the economy was heading into the tank, but somehow time and perseverance can be quite magical. Now Glenwood Park is a bustling neighborhood with new condos being built, and owner Cindy Shera’s dream of creating a really hip restaurant/ bar where people can come to relax is a reality- it’s so happening. The concept that the Shed has become fills a niche in the ATL dining community that is too often lacking; it’s a place where one can simply order a few sliders, a beer and chill; or enjoy a classic memorable meal with friends.
Chef Lance Gummere is the genius in the kitchen; his talents are obvious. Stretching the palate experience by incorporating the freshest available ingredients with a twist that is only Lance’s. The Crystal Farm Butternut Squash Soup is pureed African squash with a touch of local wildflower honey cream, whipping cream and just a splash of housemade Tabasco pepper sauce- love that sneaky warm feeling it gives. The seared then braised Berkshire pork belly is the best I’ve had in this town. The tasty morsels of pork are simmered for 8 hours in a chicken stock that's reduced to glaze this tender succulent meat. The pan-fried chicken liver bacon bruschetta is absolutely stunning- the gaminess of the liver is rounded out but the smoky Benton’s bacon flavors and a zesty housemade mayonnaise; I was not a fan of chicken livers until I had these. My favorite of the larger plates is the Pork Dumplings. The pasta-like dough is filled with diced onion, oregano, and ground pork, topped with a thick red wine braising reduction, and served with shiitake mushrooms and a grainy mustard- don’t miss this comforting dish. Watch out for a goat or wild boar dumplings.
The Shed offers some outstanding recession buster deals that showcase Chef Lance’s abilities. Wednesdays are $3 slider nights. The fantastic Pork Schnitzel slider is a pan fried breaded cutlet that has a dab of housemade pear jam. Simplicity rules with the Fried Heirloom Tomato that’s served with a dollop of Sweet Grass Diary goat cheese. An alternative to a burger is the Chilled Roast Beef slider that’s has a tangy horseradish sauce and a housemade potato chip- nice crunch.
This American Bistro in this upcoming section of ATL has become a “go-to” destination eatery. It has a bit of everything one wants in a restaurant in today’s market. Perfect to get with friends or to escape on that long overdue date night. The Shed is waiting for you again and again.
East Altanta Neighborhood Gem.
Last night my boyfriend and I experienced our first dinner at The Shed and it was absolutely refreshing. The service was top notch!! Chris, our server, was full of personality and made great recommendations.
We started with a small plate of braised rabbit which I wasn't too fond of in thought, but it was flavorful and the biscuit melted in my mouth. If you go there you must try the Blueberry Margarita which is a great alternative to the traditional Latin beverage. It was Wednesday night so we bit the bait and tried the $3 sliders....they were excellent. We had the scallop, mozzarella w/ basil pesto, and pork sliders...all were delicious.
This has definitely been added to our weekly rotation....great job last night Chris and Lance. Monica and Mel were pleased!
Great space and better food. I've only been to The Shed once, but everything about the visit left both my wife and me intent on coming back. First off, I never take a nice restaurant having its own free non-valet parking for granted, so I want to make sure and mention my appreciation of The Shed's convenient self-parking. Once you get inside, the decor is cozy and the seating is not overly crowded - also something I never take for granted these days. The menu offers something for everybody from top to bottom. The antipasto platter is a great starter. The sweet potato ravioli, while a small portion, is unbelievably good. For dessert, I recommend the homemade ding-dong. It is...well...let's just say....WAY better than a regular ding-dong!
Our go to place. Feels like fine dining, but very affordable. The food is great, the space is open and charming, with great staff. Even though my husband enjoys their great selection of wine and beer, once a while he'll can't resist their $2 PBR on draft.
Was great until my husband & I both got ill after eating t!!. We were so excited to have this place so close to our house. Most other restaurants in the area only offer bar food and it was nice to have a nicer option. We went all the time and a few weeks ago my husband and I got terribly ill. We had decided not to hold it against The Shed because things happen and we did not feel like it was thier fault. We called to let them know and warn them before other customers called w/ similar complaints.. The manager apologized and said she would sent a gift certificate which never came. I don't need a "free meal" but it seems since we are good customers and she promised to send it that she would do so in order to keep us as customers. Next time I want a good meal I will drive the extra mile into Inman Park....not worth being deathly ill for 48 hours.
Warm, Inviting, Charming.
We were greeted by Cindy on our very first visit and sat in the dining room. The menu was new to us so we gave it the once over and decided on the whole fish for my wife and the fish and chips is what I had. My wife had a perfect martini, but I was looking for a glass of wine. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and made a suggestion. I am not a big fan of what he suggested, but to assure me he stated he would buy my glass of wine for me if I did not like it. I have to give credit it was a very good selection (can not remember what it was, but a rather earth red).
The second time we visited we sat at the bar and had an even better time. I was in the mood for some beef so I had the Steak Frite, and my wife went with one of the Prix Fix which consisted of free range chicken and butternut squash. I had tried to make butternut squash a few months earlier and could not get it quite right. I really enjoyed what the Chef had done with it, and made a comment that I would love to know how he had prepared it. Well before I knew it the bar tender had said something to him and he came over and told me to step over by the (open) kitchen. Chef then proceeded to show me how he prepared it, and stated that if I had any other cooking questions at all to just ask and he would be happy to offer some suggestions.
I would say that my wife and I are regulars up there now (try to go at least once every other week), and we have yet to have a bad experience.
I have read all the reviews of this fine restaurant, and I have to say I think some people just still don't get it. The food is good, not over done, over thought, over sauced, it is just good rustic pure taste. The one year is coming up and we will be attending and hope that their are many more to come.
Excellent all around.. The owner and staff at The Shed @ Glenwood are excellent. My husband I and used to frequent the restaurant about 1-2x/week when we lived close by. It is always comfortable, food is fresh and there is always something new on the menu. Restaurant is great for large groups. We had my son's Baptism brunch at the restaurant (group of 20) & it was fabulous! We selected our own menu that was printed specifically for us, the tables were set & 1st course was ready as soon as we entered. They are very accommodating, and the experience was great for everyone there. I also love the fact that my 1 year old, who is just starting to eat table food, can eat off of our plates, since the food is from local farms &/or organic. Also like that I can take a 1 year old to such a nice restaurant. I'm not into "child friendly" chains like Macaroni Grill and Olive Garden, so having a restaurant that I enjoy that welcomes children is simply great.
Eggghh...its ok....Feels like their still working out kinks. Nice new spot...needs time to develop character, but will be a challenge since its in a regentrified area and all surroundings are noveau. Food was decent, by no means stellar, oysters didn't seem so fresh, as one of the dozen was stank. Pizole was more like vegtable soup then Pizole, Charcuterie was highlight of the meal, very good and original. Bartender has background working for Atlanta corporate restaurant groups and pours glasses of wine like it....was just waiting for a jigger the way she was eyeballing the pour and nonetheless it was light still. I know their trying to get themselves to profitablity, just never like it when they try to do it be being miro-manager pours. Understand the concept of value and people come back. Will try again later perhaps, but I'd say 2.5 out of 5 stars for now
Amazing staff, wonderful food. My wife and I were so excited about our trip to "The Shed". This was our first time at The Shed and certainly won't be our last!! The Shed was so inviting and relaxing, beginning with the staff who were eager and professional. We were seated promptly and indroduced to our head waiter who was impressive with his knowledge about the menu. We started off with cocktails, I chose the "Perfect Texan", a tequila and fruit juice blend that set my socks on fire!! Man was it good! I had two of them. My wife chose wine, a cab that she claims comes close to topping her list of favorite wines. After cocktails, we chose Roasted beet salad with Goatcheese and grilled peaches. I ate half of the beets as my wife does not care for beets, but I had to fight her for the grilled peaches!!! Chef Atwood, may I please have the receipe? Our main course was the handcut NY strips for both of us and they were perfectly cooked and presented along with the truffled fries ( you have to try these) and the corn grits which were the best we have ever had and we are grit experts! Okay, we are both full, content and impressed and our waiter comes over to tell us about the desserts. We could'nt resist. We ordered the fried banana split which featured homemade ice-crream which was soooooo good, both of us enjoyed it together. At that time, I wanted to request a Walker so I could make it to my car, but my wife said no, so I had to extricate myself from the table and walk to the car on my own, only to return early the next morning for the farmers market and breakfast which was simple bacon and eggs for the two of us, but let me tell you, the bacon was smoked, crisp and abundant, and the eggs were cooked like my wife likes them which after years of practice, I still can't get it right. We will return on our next trip to Atlanta. We enjoyed the friendly, relaxing atmosphere of "The Shed"
Great fresh from the farm ingredients. I've been there a few times and love the food and the neighborhood. It is great to have something of this quality on the "Southside". The tempura vegetables are to die for. They really work to make sure your experience is great.
