Editorial Review for Maxim Prime Restaurant – by Jonathan Baker

The Scene
Maxim Prime fools you in so many ways. With its namesake magazine at the helm, this should be meat-market-central, with masculinity bubbling in every facet. Instead the stylish, (dare I say sophisticated?) setting in the Glenn hotel flaunts multiple floors of modern decor and wall projectors--giving off a surprisingly artistic, complex vibe.

The Food
Branching away from traditionally over-bloated steakhouse menus, Maxim Prime's lineup is surprisingly light. Refreshing tuna crudo comes on a bed of sugar cane and tastes like the raw fish spent hours soaking in a mojito. The frois gras PBJ is a two-bite monster of expected decadence. Despite the allure of sushi and crustaceans, meat is the way to go here. Skip the French renditions and fancy sauces and opt to split one of the more masculine steaks for two. If you save room for dessert, the endearing berry cobbler in a mason jar gives the dinner a finish on the light side.

Hits: The staff is bubbly and attractive, adding a sense of lust to the environment.

Misses: Avoid the over-priced cheesy-themed cocktails and opt instead for a glass of your favorite red.

I have now had the pleasure of dining at Maxim Prime twice. The food has been spectacular on both visits. I especially enjoyed the Shrimp Toast and the Kobe Salad. The filet melted in your mouth and the truffled corn might be the best side dish in Atlanta. On both visits the 4 of us dining, sampled each others selections and not once was my palate disappointed. The service was friendly and sophisticated. On one occasion we had a set of beautiful twins give us impeccable service. The manager that the previous reviewer mentioned did a table visit on both of our visits to Maxim Prime and could not have been more charming and accommodating and would be one of the reasons I would continue to visit this wonderful downtown gem.

Pros: Design, Rooftop, Service, Food, Management

Cons: Expensive but worth it

I recently visited Maxim Prime this weekend for the first time with my husband. Both of us are extremely hard to impress, so when going to a new restaurant we try not to expect too much. I am happy to report that we were both VERY PLEASANTLY SUPRISED! The restaurant is beautiful, not at all masculine like I thought it would look. It's really stylish and chic. The staff was friendly and attentive. And the food was delicious. I don't eat red meat but that was not a problem at all. There were so many seafood options I had a hard time picking, so we ordered almost all of them. My favorites were the black cod, dragon roll, himachi and tuna....all were really great. Not at all what I expected from a steakhouse. My husband had a filet which he said was cooked perfectly. After dinner we went up for a cocktail at the rooftop bar...which has, by far, the best view in Atlanta. I almost don't want to mention it becuase I don't want it to start getting too crowded. You're surrounded by the city high-rises and at night it's really breathtaking. I can say that it is one of my new favorite spots to get drinks. If you go to Maxim to eat and you don't venture up to the roof afterwards you're really missing out on one of its best features. We will definitely be going back, both for the food and the rooftop bar.

Pros: Extemely diverse menu, wonderful food, FANTASTIC rooftop bar

Cons: I agree w/ other reviewer, wine list is a little lacking
