Editorial Review for Allegro – by Jonathan Baker
The Scene
Don't let cheap laminated menus and new-construction housing fool you--this is old-world service at its finest. A maitre d' scurries around the white tablecloths keeping a tight ship while the wait-staff is straight out of a 1950's international charm school-warm, attentive and genuinely passionate about the menu.
The Food
Given its Northern Italian bent, the restaurant steers clear of big dishes filled with creams and heavy cheese and is instead filled with seafood and lighter pastas. The raviolini appetizer delivers four pasta squares neatly stuffed with braised beef and dusted with parmigiano reggiano only to leave you wanting more. The signature pasta dish, Pappardelle Villa Amalia pairs potently-spiced rabbit meatballs and buttery fish atop a bed of pasta, tomatoes and fennel pollen. The chubby, sweet cut of grilled Monkfish boasts a lobster-like flavor that's not overpowered by its accompaniment of simple roasted potatoes.
Hits: Attention to detail in the service department includes the chef dropping by each table to say hello.
Misses: The meat and imported cheese tray is oh-so-normal. This menu is way too decorated to order something you can put together at Whole Foods.

Insider Tips
Where To SitSnag a window seat. An entire wall of glass bordering Piedmont Park washes the restaurant with daylight and by nightfall its reflection turns inward for a cozy feel.
Look GoodA more formal dining experience than your average Italian job, dress up a notch to look the part.
ParkingWith One Midtown Kitchen across the street note, they have separate valets.

Everything was good! I had probably the most incredible Italian Cab Sauvignon from Sardinia of my life! I was told the food supposed to be great, and surely it was. The girl attended my table was really attentive, the wine reccomandation was really appreciated
Pros: Risotto Squash, Red Wines
Cons: Signs

I was really suprise to try out this new Italian Restaurant. They serve very original dishes, excellent Italian food. My favorite was the braised short ribs, but every course was very well executed. Their risottos are really a suprise, expecially the seafood one.
