In Short – Tucked away into a strip mall off Lawrenceville Hwy sits Jermaine Durpi's night club, Studio 72. Inspired by the legendary discotheque Studio 54, this massive space is what you'd come to expect from one of the town's greatest entertainers. An 850-gallon aquarium greets night-timers in style as they walk in, and extravagant VIP areas are decked out with hot tubs, waterfalls and complimentary cigars.
1.5 Years Later and I'm Still Mad About Studio 72

Studio 72 should be ashamed, charging people as much as they do for a venue and experience that is clearly not worth it. While visiting Atlanta from Chicago I had the unfortunate experience of spending a Saturday night, October 6th, 2007, at Studio 72. My husband and I paid a total of $40.00 to enter a night club that was in a strip mall. That is a bit unusual for us, perhaps because there aren't any strip malls here in the city of Chicago but whatever, $20.00 per person as entrance fee is a rate standard that I can agree with depending on the venue. Studio 72 however, should be charging no more than $5.00 per person, at $20.00 per person; you are just ripping people off.
To justify my negative feelings towards my experience at Studio 72 besides the cost of entry, were the cost of the cocktails, the sparsely stocked bar, the condition of the bathrooms and the overall condition of the establishment itself.
My first choice for a cocktail was a Dirty Vodka Martini. The bartender quickly informed us that she couldn't make one because she did not have olives or olive juice. I thought it was a little strange but I quickly got over it. We proceeded to order drinks for ourselves and two of our friends. Tip included, the total for one round was $51.60. I could not believe it. I understand upscale venues and I feel very strongly that you get what you pay for. However, Studio 72 is a far cry from upscale and yet we paid $51.60 for 4 drinks to be served in plastic cups that were so small that the lemon in my Citron Soda was larger than the actual cup itself. Not to mention that the drinks were severely watered down. For the sake of it being too late to travel anywhere where else, we stayed around, ordered 2 more drinks, a Citron Soda and Vodka Redbull, paid $26.00 for those and continued to find issue with Studio 72.
In the women's bathroom, the stall doors were being held up by ELECTRICAL TAPE. $40.00 to get in, $77.60 for a total of 6 watered down drinks and there is ELECTRICAL TAPE holding up the bathroom doors. The electrical tape also served as door handles for the stalls. There was water or wetness all over the floors and one of the stalls had a BUCKET, not a trash can, but a BUCKET, next to the toilet that was overflowing with sopping wet paper towels, napkins, toilet paper and a glass. I cannot convey in words how disgusting the bathroom was. I had NEVER seen anything like it in my entire life. I took a picture so that I could add it my review of Studio 72. (To see the photo, go to Google Images and search for "Studio 72 + Stall")
What I find the most disturbing is that fact there are media people actually writing positive reveiws about Studio 72. Are they getting paid to do so or did I just happen to go to a different Studio 72? With the exception of the lobby, I saw nothing that looked as plush as the website photos. Like the filthy bathrooms . . . .why weren't those on the website?
For those of you that know motorcycles, I ride a honda VFR 800 that I change the oil and filter on myself. I am a black woman that is not afraid to get her hands dirty yet I refused to actually use the restroom at Studio 72. I held it until I returned to my girlfriend’s home.
At this point, I can think of nothing more to say about Studio 72 except that it is a rip off. There are simply scamming people out of there time and money.
- Pros: Nada thing!
Get in free for b'day party is a scam
by DMKathy2009 at Citysearch
2 girls were brutalized and 1 arrested just because the bouncer would not let them in the club. Their names were on the list for a b'day party but the bouncer wanted them to pay to get in. They were throwing on the ground, against the pole by cops. The girl who got arrested was only trying to help her friend up. DO NOT GO TO THAT CLUB IT IS NOT SAFE. They treated those girls very badly. DO NOT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I give it 1 star because I couldn't post the comment without it. that club deserve to be closed down.
- Cons: DO NOT GO IT'S A SCAM!!!
