“Midweek lunch service is painfully slow.”
Sliding downhill... lots of mistakes....
I have been here hundreds of times, it is literally across the street from my office and over the past 3 years I have dined here more than I count, most often for lunch.
Now, being an ex-bartender, I know that lunch is the time to hustle and it seems that the bartender at Marlow's doesn't get that notion. I guess my complaints are mostly about service. The food is good for the price (and the guy who said he would pay the same at Steel next door is DREAMING!). But since Lauren the bartender left, it has been awful at the bar.
Last week my salad sat in the expo window for 30 minutes, it had a medium steak on it that is supposed to be served warm, but it was ice cold. I sent it back and thankfully the female manager remedied it quickly. This week, I came in and was the first/only bar guest. I ask to change one of the channels from golf (since both were on golf, and I was the only one sitting there) yet the manager essentially told me no "Guys will be coming in to watch golf". I could not believe he would say NO to a) a customer, and b) considering I was the only person at the bar and 6 other TV's in the rest. had golf on.
Either way, when I paid the bill, the bartender spilled my water all over me. Thankfully he did apologize. The younger male manager came over with a towel, handed it to me and walked away, while the bartender cleaned the bar and went about his business. Meanwhile I stand there soaked and with a puddle of water below the bar stools. I WAS THE ONE who put the towels on the floor in hopes that the next customer wouldn't bust their ass.
I adore Antoine as my bartender, and from now on will only sit at the bar if he is there... otherise I will probably go somewhere else..... Being an ex-bartender, I am very understanding, but certainly expect better service....
Marlowe's for Munchies. What a pleasant surprise, when I think of tavern, rustic comes to mind, heavy bland food, not at Marlowe’s. Marlowe’s food is quality gourmet and there’s a long list of specialty drinks. You must try the flatbread appetizer layered with arugula, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, drizzled with just the right salad dressing. I’ve had the black bean burger and lamb burger, they were excellent! Can’t you tell I’ve been there several times(smile). Gotta have dessert, try the warm apple crisp topped with vanilla ice cream, scrumptious! The service is fast, courteous, always a pleasurable experience. So if you are on a budget and looking for a fast, reasonable, good place to eat, you’ve found it. I’ll be sitting at the bar sipping on my virgin pina colada(LOL). (Did I mention there’s free parking in the garage attached to the restaurant and outdoor seating)
Awesome place. Great plalce, good hummus, wings and more!!! Price and location is good. Staff is super nice. great place lunch or dinner or just parting!
Like a fancied-up sports bar, this Midtown spot does high-end pub eats and flat screens in a nicer-than-normal setting..
In Short
The word "tavern" may be a bit of a misnomer as there is nothing dank about this place, located next to super-clean spots Dressed and Steel in Midtown. Mingling with some of the city's chicest shops and high-rise haunts, Marlow's black-and-white ambience is warmed by brick walls and artistic photos. Like it's other metro locations, the upscale watering hole dishes refined comfort foods in a mammoth menu of bar favorites. Classic tavern sandwiches and burgers, snappy salads and a few delectable desserts are better-than-bar average, and there is a separate brunch menu on Sundays. The diverse clientele is a crush of well-groomed professionals and Midtown scenesters.
Average and simple for Midtown.. For the Marlows Tavern to be tucked in Midtown, the people there were underdressed. The food prices are too high, drink specials are good, and service is ok. It took a while to receive attention from the bartender even though it was a slow weekday. I recommend coming here on a lazy weekday with some friends just to hang out by yourselves, but not much of a mingling place to be.
Great food, but overpriced for a sports bar. I agree with some of the reviewers before me - Marlow's is a just a fancy version of a sports bar. The food is great, you can't deny that, but entrees were pricey for what it was. I don't think Citysearch's price measurement is accurate at all. If you get an entree, expect to pay $13-20. Ambiance is great, but only because it's just a VERY nice sports bar.
OK Place for Cheap guys.
I was invietd there for an early business dinner, soon to find it was just a sports bar filled with way underdressed people, mostly straight drinkers. I was not impresse at all, drinks where good to an extent.
When I go out, I like the whole experience and I did not find it there. We ordered food but it was bar food and we paid the same or more than if we dinned in any of the next door restaurants Amore or Steel.
both other restaurants had great food and almost same prices but with much better experience.
Steel features Susi while Amore features Italian food.
I would not go to Marlows for a good time.
Great Appetizers. We've been to Marlow's several times and have learned a few things...The parking deck is a great joice in town, saves tons of headaches! The service is decent, some times better than others but you will go thirsty in between server stops. The appetizers are excellent, we've tried most of them and they are all very good and serve lots of people. The entrees are a dissapointment. We say - go have A drink (you might not get a second); enjoy the apps; head out for the meal elsewhere.
Free Midtown Marlow's Parking!.
I love Marlow's Tavern also. The parking is not a problem because you can park in the deck for FREE!!!!
You can also enter through the deck into the back of the tavern.
I had the Baked Feta for an app. It was the best!!! For Brunch I had the breakfast buritto and my husband had the Baked Eggs....Both Awesome!!!!
A Hip Tavern, For Hip Midtown! Love The Truffled Parmesan Fries!. The beautiful new Plaza Midtown building is all glass and steel. But on the main level, you will find your own personal Publix, and several dining options. Enter Marlow's Tavern! A tavern that's hip? Oh yes. Dark and dreamy, it's all you would expect from a tavern and more. We started with a cool Orange Marmalade Martini, and the best app, we've had in many years---Truffled Parmesan Fries! Hot and yummy, but sophisticated. The Sesame Seared Salmon w/ Braised Cabbage was a winner. And the Grilled Cheeseburger is taken to a new level. Our neigbors at the next table were having Shrimp & Crab Nachos. They looked great. Music starts up later at night. You can spend the whole evening at Marlow's, from Martini's, a nice dinner, and then entertainment!
