Editorial Review for TAP – by Suzanne Wright
The Scene
Suspended kegs float above your head in a glass vault, underscoring the slogan "a convivial place to have a pint" and the raucous evening atmosphere at this sleek, three-story pub. Lunches are less frenetic and popular with professionals from the surrounding towers. The bar tends to get backed up, but the young servers hustle with a smile. Seating is comfortable, but the din can take a toll on the ears at times.
The Food
Creative munchies like the Old Bay chickpeas and pickled roots (turnips, beets, green beans and Brussels sprouts) pair well with $2 shorties of draught like the apple-wheat Ephemere. Skip the burger on a too-tough English muffin and opt for easy-to-eat buffalo fried calamari, turbo-charged "shrooms" with braised beef and onions, and the lip-smacking Alaskan halibut with spaetzle, bacon and creamed peas. Cap off dinner with a bowl of brown bread ice cream, which evokes Dublin.

Insider Tips
Where to SitCheck out the prime-time people-watching on the patio, which also affords views of Midtown's gleaming skyscrapers.
What to DrinkIf the weather's warm, try a Badminton Cup--a refreshing combo of Miller's gin, muddled cucumber, and mint.

From the moment we sat down our server, Harrison, was helpful and attentive. He took the time to suggest a couple of beers we might like and let us have a sample before we made our final decision. All his food suggestions were right on, we loved everything we ordered from the goat cheese plate to the pub burger. And when our drinks took a little long to arrive, he apologized for the wait and said it was because there was a large party upstairs. In a world where customer service is lacking, Harrison was friendly and attentive and made our first experience at Tap worth it and we will definitely come back!
Pros: Awesome outdoor patio
Cons: Hostess stand not very visible - wasn't sure where to give my parties name

A friend and I walked up to the restaurant and upon assessing the atmosphere and decor agreed that it looked like a good hang out spot. We stood at the door wondering if we should seat ourselves or if we needed to wait to be seated (mind you someone was folding silverware right next to us). We asked what to do and he said the host stand was on the other side of the bar. To make this short- the server was unattentive and lazy and the food was pretty good (the sauces were what saved them) but not warm at all. After serving our meals our server ignored us- two other servers came by to pick up our plates. A completely different server came with our checks (this was on a Thursday night after 9:30 PM and they weren't busy at all). Our original server came by to take our payment and that was that. I tipped poorly and wrote a note on my check saying the service was poor. The food was mediocre- nothing to rave about. It tasted as if it had been sitting on the plate for too long (barely warm). The place is somewhat overpriced for what you get and the quality of the food. I would NOT recommend this place and will NEVER go again.
Pros: location, atmosphere and decor
Cons: food and SERVICE
