About Chocolate Bar

  • Great Drinks
  • Wonderful Desserts
  • Signature Martinis

The Scene -- A warm and inviting atmosphere--russet walls, dark woods, exposed brick and a gleaming case filled with chocolate--entice lingering at this low-key boite and the staff doesn't mind at all. Servers are unabashedly enthusiastic and highly responsive; a slightly wrinkled nose brings a quick, cheerful fix. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse at the on-site chocolatier at work. -- -- The Food -- Light savories balance the sweets. The curried popcorn is genius snacking with a house-made limoncello cocktail or a watermelon cava spritzer. There is also Georgia pecan soup.

Went despite bad reviews, had a great time. We wanted something different to do for our anniversary. We read a lot of poor reviews but decided to go anyway. We're glad we did. The drinks were great. Had the passion fruit mojito and a Merlot. I generally don't drink wine, or merlot, but it was good.

Tried the drunken fruit and the assorted bon-bons. The wait staff was very friendly, the bartender was knowledgeable and friendly.

It was a Saturday night and we had no wait. Sat at the bar. Got drinks within minutes and the food followed shortly thereafter. Maybe the rain scared the crowds away. Most seats were taken, and everyone was getting served.

We're glad we went despite the haters. :)

I enter got no greeting so I sat at a table. waiter and hostess pass me by with out even a hello or how are this everning Sir or any atknowagement at all. When the hostess finaly came to my table and ask If I like some water with her breast about to POP out. These two Jersey Shore looking underage Hookers got better sevice then I did.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE!. This place has gone waaay down!! They shouldn't even call themselves the chocolate bar anymore since there are more flatbreads and panini's on the menu than chocolate desserts! I came to thiss place to get a chocolate fix but to no avail. because there barely ANY chocolates in the display case. The waitress convinced me to try a BBQ chicken flatbread and a little dessert called "a pot de creme". Lets just say, my waitress was the only good thing in front of me! The flatbread was hard with overcooked chicken and HUGE slices of onions ontop of a not so fresh flatbread! Then the disgrace of a chocolate dessert felt like I was chewing grains of salt because of its gritty texture. She said it was a custard but I've never had custard that was gritty.....I really did like this place for its great truffles but now it's just a waste of space. I wonder what happened to Chef Aaron and the previous owner. Maybe they can teach them a thing or two!

Taste Like Meh. I visited Chocolate Bar for the first time on Friday. It was freezing outside and I really wanted a hot dessert after dinner. So, we left our dinner restaurant and headed to Chocolate Bar. We were really pleased to find it open so late (11:30pm).

Our server was pleasant and attentive. The first thing my friends noticed were the prices. All of the desserts were $7.00+. With prices that high, I was expecting a bang up job.

The server recommended the Pot de Creme. It sounded good to me. I asked if it was like fondue, and she said, "yes, it is kind of like a pudding". I assumed that meant warm like fondue and creamy like pudding. It was $7.00 which was a bummer, but I'd been meaning to try the place out so I figured, "what the hell?" My friends ordered a slice of apple pie to share. At $8.00 a slice, it should be pretty healthy. They were excited too.

As the server passed, I asked if it was warm, because you know what they say about assumptions. She said no, but she would ask the cook if it could be warmed.

Our order arrived pretty quickly. First I looked at the sad, teeny, slice of pie my friends had recieved. It look cold and small and heavily decorated with caramel. I then looked at my Pot De Creme, the server had forewarned me that it would be "gritty" due to the vanilla bean texture. That wasn't a problem, I just love chocolate.

I tasted the wafer, it was really one of the worst things I've eaten this year. It was about the size of a quarter and so hard that for a moment I wondered if it was only intended for decoration. It numbed my tongue and when I dipped it in the chocolate as it was intended it was still really not great.

The Pot de Creme was meh. Basically a pudding cup for grown-ups. Online it shows as $5.00 which is a much more reasonable price.

My friends were bummed about their teeny pie portion. If it was going to be that tiny, the should definitely dish out some vanilla sorbet on the side.

Basically, it was really meh. Pricey, whatever-tasting, and with a good server.

My friend said about 15mins. after entering, "this place is going to go out of business". I can't say I doubt that.

Take the reigns, management! You have a runaway horse!

Really Bad Service. Im so embarrased that I planned an informal gathering here. My friends and I were the only people in the establishment on a Tuesday night, yet the waitress sat at the bar and watched TV rather than taking our order. It took more than 30 minutes for our orders to arrive, and some of us had to get up and go to the bar in order to place an order. MANAGEMENT: IS THIS HOW YOU TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS??

Wasted my money, don't waste yours. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!. I purchased several groupons for chocolate lover family members. Went several times and it was closed even though according to the hours posted online and on the door they were suppossed to be open. Today I got there around 3:00 pm and found out that they open at 4:00 pm. I waited until 4:00 just to find out that they only wanted to serve dine inn only. The lady was very rude and told me to come back at 5:30 and I told her that the sign on the door only said that they open at 4:00 and I just wanted to get some desserts for my New Years party. She said that they had no boxes or containers and wanted everybody with groupons to leave. I was not the only one there waiting and when we got mad they said they could only get a few pieces in a paper bag for our $25.00 groupon. I counted 11 people in line and we were not happy. I spent $40.00 and was supposed to get $100.00 worth. The desserts were smashed in the bags and as far as I am concern I didn't even get $10.00 worth. When I checked the price on line they overcharged me. She gave 4 pieces of cake for a $25.00 certificate. I am calling American Express since I used them for payment.

Don't go!. Don't buy a Groupon for this place! Terrible service! Music was so loud that they couldn't even hear you to take your order! I had $25 to spend and asked for 12 Truffles to go and when I got home they didn't even give me all Truffles! There were other kinds of chocolates in the box.....I should have checked but wanted out of there so bad. They also state on their website that they open at 3pm on Sat. but never opened until 4:15pm knowing people were waiting outside. Waste of time and Groupon money!

Way downhill. Two years ago, the Chocolate Bar was superb, the flavors sublime, the attention to detail remarkable. Today, not so much. The evening started on an off note, and then got worse. First, noticed that the rose on the table was sitting in cloudy, obviously old water. We were finally given two different menus with different prices for some of the same things.

Initially ordered the pot de creme. The wafer on top tasted like bug spray – a very chemical flavor that kept on coming in waves and which made my tongue numb. The chocolate beneath had taken on some of that flavor and lacked the silky-smooth, luscious flavor of the past. Okay, maybe it was an isolated problem. Ordered a cheese plate. Took 20 minutes, and when it arrived, it was so sparse it was almost comical. The walnut bread was stiff and hard and the cheese wedge was very small. Two strikes. So, surely the chocolate martini would still be delicious, right? It was okay, but in a chocolate milk kind of way – no discernable liquor.

Summary – prices up, quality down, portions smaller. How sad.

What happened? Is this place on its way out of business, a victim of a bad economy? Did the ownership change? I want the old Chocolate Bar back!

Outside is more appealing than the menu. After dining at a local restaurant in Decatur, we thought we could stop for dessert at the CB. The first thing was the paper menus that were woren or in need or re-printing. Next was the cakes. I know my desserts and noted that these were Southern Sweets Cakes. Nancy would be too disappointed to know that her cake are being served with out the fresh quality that she is known to bake.

I had one slice of the Golden chocolate layer cake. It was old or poorly kepted. That was all I would order. I noted the bar was full of employees are was that the owner behind the bar whispering to one of the bar keepers? Not sure, but the business did not appear professionally ran. The last thing that got me was the note on the menu about parties of 6 or more. Not good. That kind on negative message is not good for business. You are still new. Try improving first before demanding.
