“love the atmosphere!”
“We tried several items but the oreo cookie with salt on top was our favorite.”
“The best part was the guy behind the bar - he was soooo helpful and enthusiastic.”
“Thought the showcase should be more appealing with fresh candy, so go for drinks, avoid food”
“I've heard similar experiences from other friends ("bad service," "too small menu"), so I know it's not only me.”
“great place for chocolates”
“terrible service”
“expensive romantic place”
“The waiter was really nice, knowledgable, and quick.”
Overpriced and Overrated. The desserts are small and the prices are high. The service was great, but the experience wasn't worth it.
An appealing combination of Southern hospitality and European elegance informs this welcoming winner in downtown Decatur..
The Scene
A warm and inviting atmosphere--russet walls, dark woods, exposed brick and a gleaming case filled with chocolate--entice lingering at this low-key boîte and the staff don't mind at all. Servers are unabashedly enthusiastic and highly responsive; a slightly wrinkled nose brings a quick, cheerful fix. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse at the on-site chocolatier at work.
The Food
Light savories balance the sweets. The curried popcorn is genius snacking with a house-made limoncello cocktail or a watermelon cava spritzer. Georgia pecan soup with Vidalia onion is off-sweet and creamy, a fine foil to a charcuterie and cheese plate; try the fennel seed-flecked salami and the Roquefort Paillon with a glass of Windmill zinfandel. Desserts include strawberry shortcake or exotic bonbons such as white chocolate passion fruit, coconut-curry and basil ganache. The Buddha-shaped Lotus Sutra is filled with yerba mate, lemon, ginger and cardamom.
Lots of room to grow. The Chocolate bar as been getting a lot of hype in the Atlanta restaurant scene. After a very nice meal in another part of Atlanta my husband and I decided to give the Chocolate bar a try on our way home. Our experience that night was not at all in line with all of the hype. The decor was not as chic as advertised and the stark little cafe style tables did not encourage one to linger over dessert and a glass of wine. We were disappointed that an establishment which served so much chocolate only had one port option on the menu. What goes better than port and chocolate? The chocolate bonbons we selected ranged from OK to excellent. The service was mediocre at best. They seemed a little stretched thin that night and the stress was showing on everyone's face. All in all it was just OK, nothing really to write home about. I will probably only return to purchase chocolate boxes as gifts, but wouldn't eat in again. Just was not the welcoming experience I had hoped for.
Dessert Spot.
Chocolate Bar
This is my first-time reviewing a place to eat but I was so impressed with the Chocolate Bar, the service and food that I want to make sure that others enjoy it. My daugter and I had the pleasure of treating ourselves with a girl's night out . It was over the top in service(our waiter was a premed student at Emory) and the food. The waiter questioned what we liked and provided suggestions from the menu that he thought we might enjoy including the type of beverage . We tried several items but the oreo cookie with salt on top was our favorite. A wine was suggested which we were given a generous portion to try and it was fantastic with the chocolate. I will be back .
Birthdays!!.
I recommend stopping there for your desserts after you have dined somewhere else for dinner. I took my parents and girlfriend there for my mothers birthday last night. The waitress was very helpful in suggestions and when we got a togo box with more goodies for us to eat later she wrapped my mothers up with a card saying Happy Birthday on it. How extremely nice that was of her to do. Alot of servers just don't seem to go that extra step any more and it was so very nice to see that some still do. Thank you!
Only one suggestion for the bar. Try not to run out of the wine that is suggested on the menu for what goes best with a dessert. I good substitute was suggested and I did drink it but I would of loved to have tasted the recommemded wine one the menu for that dessert.
Chocolate Nirvana Desserts & Drinks!. Last Tuesday night after our weekly Fried Chicken Dinner w/Scott Peacock at Watershed, we needed a new Chocolate fix! The Chocolate Bar is the bomb! It's small, intimate, hip and craves one's sensual senses. Assorted Chocolate Martini's, Housemade Truffles, featuring hickory smoke, basil or tequila. They have a lenghty wine list and a large selection of culinary cocktails, some spiked with Green Tea or Passion Fruit. Our dessert choice was the Salted Caramel Ganache w/Chocolate Sorbet. This place is pure Nirvana. If you want to start the evening here, small plates, salads, and soups are available. This is the next step above the old Supper Club, now in date heaven. We will return soon, probably next Tuesday night!
Dessert is back in a BIG way.......
My wife and I stopped into The Chocolate Bar last night after a wonderful dinner at Watershed just down Ponce. We'd heard about the opening, but had yet to stop in. Right off the bat, we were very impressed with the amazingly friendly staff and beautiful decorated interior, not to mention the glowing case of truffles and other goodies staring you in the face upon immediate entry into the front door.
We decided to take up the Thursday night house special and have half-priced martinis at the bar. After getting some recommendations from the wonderful bartender, we decided to sample the "Tiramisu" and "The Chocolate Bar" martinis. Both were fantastic dessert martinis with the tiramisu highlighted by the mascarpone cream float, and the chocolate bar martini just a perfect balance of dessert bliss coupled with a kick!
After struggling to pick a dessert to share, we decided on the petite four sampler, which gave us a sampling of a couple of different homemade truffles. All were ridiculously delicious, and I?d probably say were highlighted by the "strawberries & champagne" truffle. There were at least four other desserts that really captivated my interest, but will have to wait until next time.
We had a wonderful experience at The Chocolate Bar, and would highly recommend it to anyone. Decatur area restaurants better beef up their dessert menus if they want to keep pace. A true Decatur gem, in only a month of existence.
