Editorial Review for Maoz – by Justin Hartung
The Scene
This falafel spot is the first New York location of a European chain, but it won't be the last if the long lines of lunching nine to fivers are any indication. The decor is right out of '60s sci-fi: A spacey green and white pattern covers the tiny room, and exposed, round bulbs hang from the ceiling. A handful of counter seats accommodate the lucky few.
The Food
The line moves quickly thanks to the limited scope of the menu, which essentially boils down to one basic choice: Do you want your golden brown, abundantly spiced falafel accompanied by hummus and sauteed eggplant or not? Beyond that, diners customize their sandwich at an all-you-can-stuff toppings bar that includes flash-fried broccoli, sweet pickles, hearty tabouleh, pickled carrots, chunky beets and fresh tomatoes. Three choices of hot sauce add a fiery finish, and garlic mayo sweetens the deal on crisp, perfectly salted Belgian fries.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoPita comes in white or whole wheat, although the white is fluffier and tastes better with the falafel.
What to DrinkSoda is available and if you don't mind your beverage at room temperature, try the fresh-squeezed apple, orange and carrot juice ($3).
Prix Fixe MenuIn true fast food fashion, combo meals are available: The $7.75 meal deal gets you a sandwich with all the trimmings, fries and a soft drink (or juice for an extra dollar).
The ExtrasIf you're skimping on carbs, you can skip the pita and fill a large salad box for $7.95 (includes juice).

Maoz offers pretty decent food for a quick option, but they can never seem to support their "for fast and free delivery" promise...I have called over five times within the last couple of weeks and they never have anyone available to deliver. Very disappointing...

I randomly read about this place and decided to try it out when I was craving a healthy way to do falafel- it definitely delivered! The salad bar is so unique and you can create a very filling meal, that's also healthy, delicious, and unique!
Pros: Unique!
Cons: Slow carry-out
