Chef-owner Ford Fry has brought his version of New Southern cuisine to Atlanta's trendy Westside. Located in the space that once housed Commune and Sampan, the restaurant has a more casual vibe than its predecessors. The scene sure is cozy but it's the food -shrimp and grits, fried chicken, sweet corn soup and a modern version of chicken and dumplings that changes with the seasons - that has even the most jaded foodie hipster going back for seconds. – – High Marks – "I've never been to a restaurant that could even TRY and compete with my daddy's cheesy grits. Don't tell…

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
Arrive early if you have a hankering for the fried chicken. It's cooked to order and the supply is limited.
The Extras:
The second-floor bar (it's open Tuesday through Saturday) features live music on the weekends, and one of the best views of the Atlanta skyline.

  1. will add that all the food I have had has been great and I love the potterybarn style decor.
  2. The atmostphere is cozy like sitting on a back porch or Martha Stewart's kitchen (thankfully without Martha).
  3. The food is pricey for the type of food you're eating but you're paying for atmosphere.
  4. know it is supposed to be a farmhouse style atmosphere but the flies are a little too authentic.
  5. Great atmosphere, great service
  6. What a great view of the city!
  7. You have an amazing skyline view, comfy couches and acoustic guitar.
  8. Space: Great build-out and a big move in taking over a location that has not survived for two other previous restaurants.
  9. Very nice decor.
  10. Between the service, the ambiance, the delicious meal, the excellent dessert (I recommend the chocolate cake), and the down-home decor, I'm definitely going back.
  11. The view of midtown and downtown from the upstairs bar was incredible!
  12. The decor was really cozy.
  13. Good food, love the decor
  14. -Ambience: well decorated and a good atmosphere.
  15. Great atmosphere, great food, great ambiance.
  16. With the investment in truly solid cooking, lovely decor, and elegant lighting, we wish that the restaurant had paid a little more attention to the way it treats its customers and the training of its staff and management.
  17. The decor is perfect and the smoky air (thank you, bbq pit!)
  18. Great food, great fun
  19. Definitely a great business lunch location -- and parking was very easy.

HORRIBLE

by yellowband

FOOD WAS COLD, LACKING FLAVOR AND SIMPLY UNINSPIRING...IF I WORKED IN THIS KITCHEN I WOULD HOPE THEY WOULD FIRE ME IF I PUT OUT FOOD LIKE THIS. OVER PRICED, OVER CROWDED, LOUD, OBNOXIOUS STAFF, SIMPLY CANNOT DESCRIBE WHAT AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE. HAVE GIVEN IT 3 CHANCES AND WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK. SIMPLY HORRIBLE...SHAME ON THE "ACCLAIMED" CHEF.

Great southern food!

My wife and I visited JCT kitchen for her birthday and really enjoyed. We had the duck rillette to start, which was fantastic. I had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly and the fennel and apple sauce was great as well. My wife had the pork special with sweet potato fingerlings and brussel sprouts which was very good as well. THe portions were a good size especially for the price. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Food was Great

by BrenLRoss

An old friend and myself went to JCT Kitchen for dinner this past week end. My friend Linda and I hadn't seen each other in quite sometime and were looking forward to having a nice dinner and catching up with what has been going on in our lives. We arrived and it was very busy but we were seated right away. We ordered wine and a specialty cocktail from the fun cocktail list. They were both great. We told the young man that was our server, who by the way looked as if he hadn't shaved his face in several days, that we wanted sometime to visit but he continued to push us to place our order. He seemed to really have a chip on his shoulder and was somewhat short with us.We did eventually order and dinner was fantastic. The crakerjack salad was one of the best salads I have ever had. Where we had felt rushed in the begining, we later felt negletected during dinner when our server negletected to check back with us for sometime. When we had finished he seemed as if he wanted to push us out of there to get his next table. The service needs to be more hospitable but the food was excellent! I will definatlly come back.

  • Pros: The angry muscles were fantastic!
  • Cons: The server's attitude and enthusiasm was lacking.

Pimento Cheese and Tomato Soup on a cold, wet day in the ATL

by SteveintheCity

Visited JCT today and had an excellent "Southern" lunch of warm Pimento Cheese on toast and a creamy tomato soup. Great combo on a rainy, dreary day in the ATL. Service was attentive but subdued and very informed/educated about the menu.

Definitely a great business lunch location -- and parking was very easy.
