“Before I talk about the restaurant, let me say that Sugar Cakes makes the best Wedding, Birthday, and party cakes I have ever tasted.”
“Fresh, delicious, artfully done dishes made with qual.”
“The delicious lunch menu is great but the fresh baked goods are the best in Marietta, maybe even Atlanta.”
“am willing to tolerate a reasonable wait if the staff is accommodating and the food is good.”
“The food was very enjoyable and affordable.”
“If it's busy, like most good places are - the service will be somewhat slow.”
out of the ordinary meals at a very reasonable price.
Here's my summary:
French Toast: dipped in Crem-Brule...YUM! Now, that's thinking outside the box!
Meals are light but filling. Coffee is a little strong but well complemented by the wonderful deserts. I only wish they could be known for their evening menue (it was wonderful). If you go to see a show at the Strand, pop over for dinner and enjoy.
Nothing Sweet about Sugar Cakes.
I've had the pleasure of being a "Sugar Cakes" patron on one occasion prior to my recent visit on April 18, 2010. Think quaint eat-in pastry shop with delectable goods behind the case and off the menu. The food was very enjoyable and affordable. My boyfriend and I were looking forward to having a similar experience on Sunday.
As usual for a Sunday morning, it was very busy. I am willing to tolerate a reasonable wait if the staff is accommodating and the food is good. Unfortunately, the service was plain absent. We waited approx. 10 minutes for our order to be taken and then an additional 25 minutes for our food. I brought the lapse in service to the owners' attention and he was less than concerned. In fact, when we could wait no longer, he insisted we pay for our coffee and orange juice.
We could have easily been appeased with a simple explanation and or apology. Not to mention, the owners bring their small children in after school hours, so the customers are forced to endure their horseplay in a very tiny space.
This will be our last visit to this establishment until the owners embrace a customer-focused business model that factors in the dining-in experience!
Best Place For Cakes. Before I talk about the restaurant, let me say that Sugar Cakes makes the best Wedding, Birthday, and party cakes I have ever tasted. They are nothing like your traditional run-of-the-mill cakes found in most bakeries. These cakes are pure quality - and they taste of quality. Simply the best! If it's pastries you are craving, Sugar Cakes pastries are better than most. These are real french pastries. Try the custard raisin. Mmmmmm! They also whip up a good breakfast. Try the Creme Brulee french toast or their Country Breakfast. They are both to die for. Lunches are excellent too. They use fresh baked french croissants for some of their sandwiches. These are the best croissants I have ever tasted. If it's busy, like most good places are - the service will be somewhat slow. But that is to be expected whenever you go to a place that is crowded because they serve good food. Just put your patient hat on and enjoy the food. Prices are excellent. They also serve top of the line desserts.
Best pasteries this side of the atlantic. I love pastries. Just ask my husband. And Sugar Cakes really knows how to deliver to a gal who loves pastries. The croissants are as good as those I've tried in France, and the rest of the pastries are as equally palate pleasing. Sugar Cakes also has full breakfast & lunch menus for those looking for some bacon & eggs to go with that yummy Peach Almond Danish. Next time you visit the Marietta Square, don't pass this up!
