The Scene
Downtown Atlanta is enjoying a resurgence, and FAB is poised to capitalize on it. The place is stunning, a grand brasserie in the truest sense (although smoking is only allowed on the rooftop): 15,000 square feet spread over four floors with a circular bar, grand staircase, hand-painted ceilings, marble and brass accents, and ornate chandeliers. Service is as polished as the setting; omnipresent owner Fabrice Vergez oversees all.
The Food
Longtime fans will recognize classics like the white bean and truffle oil soup and sautéed skate wing in caper and brown butter sauce. But the velvety pan-roasted monkfish with house-cured salt cod and the succulent Harris Ranch filet with seared foie gras and asparagus display new verve from the kitchen, as do the plump sweetbreads with wild mushrooms and black truffle sauce. The flavorful organic watercress, membrillo and marcona almond salad is a novel vegetarian choice.

Well, I put off writing because there is one thing really cool going on at FAB. The upstairs patio is a wonderful space. You're below the tall buildings around you and it feels kind of eerily like NYC. In fact the whole building/location is sort of NYCish. I have to say I'm anxious to get back to the patio when the weather warms up. But, they're supposed to be all about food and unfortunately that's where they take a tumble. Three out of four of our appetizers were way over salted. Tragic. We flagged down the waiter and told him there was a problem in the kitchen. So, the mains came out under salted. What gives? I must give props to the owner. He came over to make general conversation and we commented on the salt problem. He gave us all a free dessert. Very kind. We didn't expect it but quite frankly it was a very good move on his part since this salt issue is kind of a big deal. I noticed that someone else mentioned it too. Bottom line is I do want to sit up on that fabulous patio this summer but definitely will not be eating in the dining room.

This place is very expensive but worth it. The wine list is extensive and the food is suburb. The quiche Lorraine was really yummy the Meyer Lemon Crepe was so amazing with Pomegranate syrup I've never had anything like it.
