What People Are Saying About Elliott Street Deli & Pub

In Short – Tucked onto a side street of downtown 'hood Castleberry Hill, Elliott's is a hidden, pint-sized artist dive. Burly brothers Pete and Michael Jakob opened the bar in 2006 and live in the apartment upstairs. A choice beer selection and homemade sandwiches wrapped in wax paper ooze a vibe that is personal and heartwarming. Limited seating along the L-shaped bar help first-timers get to know each other while the surprisingly sweet biker-channeling owners entice you to come back.

Editor's Tips

On The Menu:
The Dirty Bird in Blue and turkey Slawich highlight an interesting sandwich selection. For snacking, try the bacon-loaded potato salad.
Look Good:
Ring the bell at the bar's corner to buy a round of shots for the room.
Know Before You Go:
Vegetarian options are limited. If you don't like the Tomato Capritzi, stick to beer and cocktails and grab food else-where.

Bottle Rockets & Crossbows

by Mayor of Ponce

The address is in the name of the place, and I’ve been here a number of times, but my haphazard internal GPS still has trouble finding it. It’s Elliot Street Pub and down a dead end street, it’s nestled in a creepy corner of Castleberry Hills. It’s a tiny bar that takes pride in its obscurity. A kind of place with cups, a keg, and chalk board by the door that trusts the regulars on the honor system.

Cramped in this pint-sized bar shoulder to shoulder, It's more like a walk-in closet with a liquor permit. But the warmth is comforting, it’s like we’re in this together.

I’ve once seen the owners out in the street on a summer’s afternoon shooting bottle rockets at street signs, vermin, and each other. This is a good thing. Trust.

On another occasion, I’m informed this place has a basement. I felt like Pee Wee Herman finding out The Alamo does in fact have a basement! Down a confidential stairwell, in a dingy romper room with a full bar, an R&B band, and a crossbow propped in the corner. Brilliant.

This is a terrific place to take a date. You'll get points for knowing about something so cool, but maybe make a practice run the day before- you'll look like a clown if you get lost getting there.

Remember kids, tip well and tip often... they have a crossbow.

  • Pros: EVERYTHING
  • Cons: More people are finding it. (maybe I should erase this)

Hidden Gem

by ATLFoodie

Great place to grab a sandwich and a beer! Shorter beer list, but enough to meet the needs of anyone into hops. You never know who you will meet here. The owners, Mike and Pete, are genuine and truly care about their regulars.

  • Pros: Interesting company
  • Cons: Smoking in bar

Best Sandwiches in Town

by kduquemin

Nestled in Castleberry Hill, Elliot Street is a Cheers-like pub and deli that is haven-like for residents of the area, and a gem-to-be-discovered for people who have not yet encountered it. In a loft-like renovated building, Elliot Street offers great sandwiches and cold drinks. My favorite is the Turkey Slaw-wich. It is awesome! Also, the owners take into account both health and the environment, and only use fresh ingredients and shipped in daily breads (clearly, I have been there a lot to know that!.. ;). In regards to the environment, it is my understanding they only use recycled plateware as well.

If you like a laid-back place that offers sandwiches, or even if you are looking for a chill bar to kick back with some friends in the Atlanta area, definitely check this place out.

  • Pros: Great food, good people, cute place
  • Cons: This is a popular place for many residents of Castleberry Hill, so it may (understandably) get crowded
