Located in an unassuming storefront in a Kroger shopping center, Ege is a closely guarded secret amongst its regulars. Packing customers into the handful of tables and small sushi bar, the lone server scurries around delivering the insanely fresh fish sliced by the master sushi artists behind the counter. Unlike many sushi joints in the metro, these sliced nuggets of deliciousness are not dyed, fresh off the truck, and carved from hulking chunks of top quality former sea-dwellers. The rolls are clean and light, even down to the newbie standard California and Spicy Tuna, complimented by the perfectly spongy rice. To really taste the difference between fresh and, well…not, opt for the chef’s selection of sashimi, which typically includes a tour of the joint’s fish selection. Creative salads and authentic Japanese standards draw the native Japanese crowd to join the sushi lovers.
