This soul food joint in Stone Mountain is reminiscent of the legendary Hodges..
In Short
With the unfortunate shutdown of the Hodges soul food restaurant a few years back, an obvious void was left in the hearts (and stomachs) of folks on Atlanta's east side. Places like King don't fire up their stoves in an attempt to be a replacement by any stretch. But one has to admit there are some similarities. Take the look of the place. Like the closed landmark off Candler Road, King is simple, with modest tables and a cafeteria-style line of meats and veggies. And then there's the familiar smell. The mix of perfectly-seasoned ox tails, collards and yams strikes an aroma some wish came in a bottle. Were there a couple of guys in the parking lot selling incense and bootleg DVDs, you might just think Hodges had relocate.
