The Scene
Flourishes of color and tweaks in design soften and cozy up this decidedly minimalist space, where built-in partitions divide the once cellar-like room into more intimate sections. Service is a treat--attentive yet unobtrusive, and as hospitable as you might expect from a restaurant whose name translates roughly into "How's it going?"
The Food
There's enough to like on this menu, but the kitchen seems to suffer from underestimating its patrons' tolerance for heat and depth of flavor. Curries are among the weakest suits--red and penang versions finish with an unpleasant bitterness, and the green lacks its usual complexity and heat. Pad kee mao is is undeniably tasty, though not drunk with heat, as is custom. The small dishes feel more honest: Tofu larb is dressed with a well-realized harmony of lime, fish sauce and fiery chiles; similarly sauced shrimp are soaked through with intense, tart-sweet flavor.

What a wonderful place! Lovely and very authentic, not just the food but the people too! Not coddling service, which I find cloying and phony, but generous and considerate. It's the sum of the parts that creates an environment that manages to relax you without your awareness until it has been accomplished.

For authentic Thai food that is as good, if not better than Nan for half the price, Sbydee is the spot. More familiar dishes like Masaman and Pad Thai are delicious and more expertly flavored than anywhere in town. But the menu rewards you for being adventurous. The Basil Seafood is spicy without dominating the flavor and the Kai Himapan cashew chicken is perfect. The ingredients used in these dishes are so fresh, our server even showed us plants growing in the restaurant that are used to flavor them. It's easy to miss, but there is free parking behind the restaurant accessed from Juniper or 10th Street. Sbydee's staff is warm and quick to remember you, even what you ordered last time. The owner is always present and proud of her restaurant. She should be.

My girlfriend and I tried to eat here once, but they told us that they were going to close. That kind of upset me a little bit because many people were still eating, and I think someone might have even walked in. I was upset with this restaurant for some time, but my girlfriend and I came back and actually had dinner. I must say there is not a lot to say about the decor of the restaurant. It was nice, but wasn't unique. I liked how it was open, and relaxed. At many restaurants you have a stuffy atmosphere that makes it uncomfortable to even eat. The waiters were nice. I say that in plural form because I am not sure who our waiter was, it seemed liked everyone got a piece of the serving action. The appetizers were small but great. We had the dumplings, which were really good, and a bread type of appetizer with a peanut type dipping sauce. I enjoyed both very much, and my girlfriend enjoyed them as well. The entrees we ordered were the duck and the catfish. Forgive me for not providing the correct names of the entrees but both were spicy and delicious. The ingredients were very fresh, and the duck and catfish were cooked to perfection. The entrees were not so big as to where they would completely stuff you until you felt like blowing chunks. The portions I think were proper and just right. They could have given me a bigger portion of rice, but I am 200+ pounds so I need a little more rice than most people. We didn't opt for dessert, but I loved the restaurant and think that everyone who reads should give it a try. Oh and I forgot to mention the duck was nice and crispy on the outside, but very tender on the inside, also the catfish was breaded which was great because it was a nice texture with cooked, but semi-crispy vegetables. The prices were also very reasonable. I was very surprised.
