Tips for Salon Olivia Todd

March 22, 2013

This is for their Smyrna location - I bought a groupon b/c all I needed was layers cut into my med-long hair. I figured I didn't need the best in the business for this. Any stylist should be able to do this pretty well. I am not type A when it comes to my hair so, I didn't expect perfection. I called numerous times and could never get anyone on the phone. It's not super far from my house so, one day I decided to go by the salon to book my appointment. I walked in and no one was there. Finally, someone showed up after 10 minutes. I asked her if they do caucasion hair. She says yes, they have one person who does and gave me that person's cell. I call that person and make an appointment for 2 days later at noon. I arrived at the scheduled time but she wasn't there. The on-duty stylist calls her and then passes me her phone to speak to the stylist. The stylist says she thought it was for 12:30 and she'll be there in 30 minutes if I can wait. I was a stay-at-home mom so this is no big deal for me. She arrives at 12:30 and I tell her not to shake my hand b/c I have a cold. She looks at me like I have a horrible disease & asks if the receptionist told me she does not do sick people's hair b/c she always catches it. I say no. She tells me since I waited she will do my hair (like she is doing me some huge favor). She then looks at my hair dry (which is usually the sign of a good stylist) and then starts pitching to me about how she teaches aesthetics classes and how great she is. How I should attend some of her classes. She then tells me she can buy my products for me at her professional discount, but I have 2 days to come get them or she will never do my hair again. I tell her I'll think about it. During all this I am thinking she has quite the ego, but I don't care. As long as she is good I can deal with ego. She then washes my hair. it hurt so much while she was washing it I just had to keep thinking to myself it will be over soon. She was pretty rough. Then she starts styling & cutting my hair. Again telling me how great she is at hair. When it's all said and done I look at my hair in the mirror and it looks really good. I notice that one side looks different than the other, but I think to myself it's probably just that one side is turned under & one is turned out. So, I go home and take a really close look in the mirror and realize it's not the style that is the problem. The right side looks great and has tons of layers & depth. The left has almost none. It is so vastly different from the other side there is no way I can go out into public with this hair. I have to wear a ponytail for a few days. I was about to start a new job & did not have time to find someone to fix it. I was not going back to her. So, I took scissors & fixed it the best I could. I get it pretty close so that with just a barrett or headband you can't tell it's different. Once it grows out a few inches I will go somewhere else to have it fixed. To top it all off she hits me with a n 18% nonnegotiable tip so that the groupon is no longer a decent deal. She tells me she has to do it to keep using groupon. I am thinking you are missing the point of the groupon for the consumer. The groupon price was too much for what I got, much less the 18% & what she normally charges. If the haircut had been even I would have at least given her 4 stars even with the other issues. Bottom line - stay away. Poor service, poor work, ridiculous price.

I LOVE my skin! Just had the best skin care treatment ever and I'm a skin care junkie! Karen, the medical esthetician is the most experienced and talented facialist I've ever met. Her price point is unbeatable in light of the level of expertise. I highly recommend the microcurrent with peel! The results are INSTANT and AMAZING!

WONDERFUL! I got a cut and style from Olivia last week and I was very pleased. Very sweet girl, very accommodating. The salon is in an old house, it is very cute and quaint. I will definitely be returning.

Excellent Results. I have horribly unmanageable hair, but Mary was able to treat it and give me some recommendations of what products to continue using at home. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and friendliness of the people here. I felt like they really cared about what I wanted......

Horrific experience. My friend and I bought a groupon for two manicures/pedicures which was suppose to include mimosas. We had to make the appointment a month in advance because they had no availability earlier than that. The head nail technician was running late so the other nail technician went ahead and started on my pedicure while my friend still sat in the waiting room. The nail technician appeared super nervous and when asked, admitted she had been out of practice for over two yrs and wasnt sure what to do. She later admitted she used to do acrylic nails only and didnt really know how to even do pedicures. She then proceeded to CRY because she was so nervous! When the head nail technician finally showed up 45 minutes late, she was very rude and unapologetic. She said "if you don't want to be here just leave." Nobody offered us our "included mimimosas" and at this point we felt very uncomfortable even being there. I pulled my feet out of the cold bucket of water (they don't even have spa pedicure chairs), walked past the crying nail technician and the extremely rude technician and left. Calls were made to the owner and messages left on his personal cell phone, however he failed to return a single call. I will never go back to this salon and I will let everyone know about my horrible experience

Unprofessional!. Rude people answering the phone, rude nail tech...from start to finish they failed in the customer service department. I will not be returning.

Apparently having issues..... Haven't even been able to schedule an appointment due to their inefficiency. Some places should not sell Groupons if they are not capable of handling the volume. I scheduled an online appointment a week ago, apparently that is not a feature they use well. I had not received a confirmation and actually called my self to reschedule due to a conflict and was told they haven't made"call backs" and informed me they are not even open at the time I originally scheduled for. Were they going to call and tell me this, and ask me to reschedule? Apparently not.... She told me to call back on the DAY I wanted the appointment to see if anyone had cancelled... Not very professional, was also put on hold 3 times for an extended period. Would be nice if their hours were posted SOMEWHERE on their website... Or if their hours posted on City Search were current....

Don't go - even if you have a coupon.. The Good: It only cost $25 plus tip and the manicurist was nice.

The Bad: Bubbles in toenail polish, toenails not completely painted, hangnails galore, she forgot to paint my middle finger with the top coat (i had to tell her), she didn't round the nails as requested, two nails have chipped less than 24 hours afterwards.

The rest: the room is teeny, tiny and I did not get offered a mimosa although that's how it was sold.

In summary: I lost an hour of my life. Tomorrow I return to my regular manicurist.

If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Go Only if you Have Time & Coupon. I purchased a deluxe mani/pedi through Half Off Depot here to be used on Tuesday, November 22nd via appointment, only. Once I got there (my appt. was scheduled for 10 AM that day), I proceeded to wait over an hour until Janine asked me if I could reschedule due to overbooking. Luckily, I was able to come back the next day. Janine also included a complimentary deep conditioning treatment because of the oversight. My nails were done by Nadine. The finished product was nice, but I felt like the foot massage could have lasted longer and also felt that too much skin was taken off while trimming around the nails, making it a little uncomfortable. The biggest things were the atmosphere (there was none) and I have had better mani/pedis at normal nail salons. If you go, be prepared to wait a while (just in case).
