“will say it has a very nice atmosphere, however, that is ruined by horrible service and sub-par food.”
“Since it was my birthday, I was greatly anticipating the dessert menu after seeing two tempting creations served to another table.”
“Good wine selection for those who like wine.”
“This was incredible--plump portions of fresh lobster with perfectly cooked organic pasta was heaven.”
“Conclusion: There are some very good dishes here but the menu and execution are inconsistent, as is the service.”
“You can get pizzas, panini and pastas for less, which would be nice for a light supper, yet it was weird to be coming to a nice restaurant and having the people at the next table eat ing pizza and sandwiches.”
“would have to go back and experience it one last time before I can say that I like Ecco.”
“The service is wonderful and the atmospher is great.”
“laugh when I see remarks that this place is expensive - when is the last time these suburbanites ate out - 1985?”
“confess I was expecting another snotty kid who had an expensive haircut and 10 minutes of wine knowledge under his belt.”
The fried goat cheese and charcuterie plate are must orders; great wine list as well
Amazing Italian fare. Goat cheese fritters and homemade pastas are a must try.

The farm to table concept is so passé at this point that Ecco kicks it up a notch with their own rooftop garden for fresh apps & cocktails.
Excellent Service, Food, and Atmosphere.
Nestled in midtown Atlanta on 7th street, just east of Georgia Tech, this European-inspired restaurant is a terrific spot for an elegant evening. I had the pleasure of coming here with my girlfriend for our three year anniversary, and the experience was excellent. The service was impeccable; our waiter was terrifically attentive without being intruding, extremely professional, and recommended great wine pairings with our meal. The atmosphere was very elegant, perfect for a classy evening meal, whether as a date or simply an up-scale evening with coworkers or clients.
To me, service and atmosphere are actually more important than the food, as I go to a restaurant for an experience, and not just the food. Needless to say, however, Ecco topped off the evening with a wonderful menu. I love the European style offering of great cheese and meat pairings they offer. We got the recommended goat cheese appetizer, which was excellent, along with the three for 14 cheese/meat pairing. For entrees, my girlfriend got the Pappardelle and I got the Sausage entree, both very delicious.
All in all, an excellent, elegant evening. You can tell they know what they are doing.
Loved it!. I have been to Ecco twice this past year and have yet to be disapointed. My boyfriend and I have always received stellar service and amazing food. This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite here in Atlanta. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is intrigued by foods out of the ordinary, that are fresh, and never the same. Might I suggest, if it is your first time, as I do in any restaurant, always get the small bites to share and slowly throughout the night, if you like it, order more and move on to a bigger course! I truly feel that a restaurant's smaller bites are what distinguishes it from a good to an extraordinary restaurant. If a chef and his staff are taking the time and care into a smaller dish, you know the the entrees will be amazing!
Meh.
From all the great reviews, I thought this would be super-awesome and it was a little ho-hum. There were some okay flavors, like in the lentil-chorizo ragout, but nothing really burst with flavor or made me say 'I would definitely come back just for this dish.' The service was very good once they sat us in the booth the waiter said he could not seat us in (likely so he could keep more people in his area).
What got us off to a poor start was when they brought us cold (like fridge cold) bread. That is a big pet peeve of mine, and not something I would expect of such a highly rated restaurant.
The picked vegetables were pretty good, but they were clearly pickled in pure vinegar. They were hard to eat, but addictive at the same time.
The sausage pizza was just okay. Nothing special here.
The dessert was weird. My wife is pregnant and I told the waitress so. They gave us chocolate balls with cognac in it. Okay, so the cognac is cooked off, but dark chocolate has a bunch of caffeine in it, which is not great for pregnant ladies. It also had an unsweetened cocoa powder on it that made it very hard to eat. We couldn't finish them.
Great food, Great Service!. I've been to Ecco several times and think it's amazing! The food is fabulous and the service is wonderful. This is a great place for a fun night out to enjoy excellent food and wine- you wont be disappointed!
Weird attitude.
we got there at 8pm on a beautiful sunday evening and for some reason the hostess was averse to seating us outside. we said we wanted a table outside and she said the wait would be an hour. which was a blatant lie to discourage us from waiting for an outside spot. there was literally not one single person waiting ahead of us. so I said ok we will wait, and she was clearly surprised that we called this bluff. A table became available for us in less than 5 minutes, which she begrudgingly acknolwedged to us, but then she intentionally took about 25 minutes to clear it and seat us. It was so weird. The patio was full of people so it is a total mystery to me why we were unwanted outside.
And ditto on the fern pizza - it's funky and no good. Plus the pizzas are teeny tiny. Pappardelle is great.
Midtown’s quiet, culinary crown jewel..
In Short
With semi-casual restaurants dominating the street level of so many Midtown high-rises, Ecco sits quietly on 7th as the neighborhood’s most elegant and endearing eatery. The dark space is sophisticated but comfortable, and the menu reflects that: tender grilled squid, crispy-thin pizza and luscious meats and cheeses highlight an app-heavy menu that encourages sharing. It’s like if Sotto Sotto was a little more casual and served mostly European-influenced small plates. So get an order of the addictive fried goat cheese, pick out a good wine and plan to stay a while. You’ll be glad you did.
One of my favorites but....
Let me first say, this was completely my fault, and not the restaurant's. I love Ecco. Think it's a great concept, has outstanding service and the space is beautiful.
Went there recently for dinner and they had a pizza on the menu that had fiddlehead ferns, mushrooms, talleggio, and aged balsamic. I love fiddlehead ferns and their only in season in the spring, so we went for it. In my fern enthusiasm, I forgot, however, that I have an amazing dislike for talleggio cheese. I first had it on a hotdog at Ormsby's, and instantly vowed never to eat it again. Maybe it's different when it's not melted, but this over-powering queso has a fairly stinky taste and a REALLY stinky smell. And so much of food's taste depends on the smell.
Thankfully, we had ordered a bunch of apps and weren't even that hungry when I made the boneheaded order... I could only handle two slices. Should have gone with the magarita pie.
In a word....memorable.
I think for someone in their late-late 20's, I've had the opportunity to sample a nice array of Atlanta's top restaurants. I have a good enough memory, that if given a directory, I could probably list just about every place I've been to and whether I liked it or not. However, it would be a bit more difficult to tell you specifically what I liked about each place. In other words, if you ask "why should I go there?" there might only be a handful of places I could give you a convincingly definitive answer. Ecco is in that handful.
As I'm writing this review it has been more than a year since my one and only visit, and that now seems plain irresponsible on my part. From that one visit, I remember the wood-fired pizza I ordered being quite good, but I couldn't tell you which one it was. My most intensely lingering recollection from the exeperience was the fried goat cheese with honey and black pepper. I've never had anything quite like it. These brilliant golden sweet little nuggets seemed so simple. Why aren't they standard fare at every restaurant? I wanted to order a bucket full of them. They are that good.
If you're like me, and you find that some of these upscale trendy dining halls often begin to blur together, go to Ecco and order the fried goat cheese. Over a year later I still can't get it out of my head.
