After eating there once, I had a dream about the food because it was sooo good. I love getting to try so many things. I love that you can bring your own wine and not pay a corking fee. The food is excellent! Mama and Marcelo (owners) make the restaurant such a warm and pleasant place to enjoy the best Italian food in Atlanta. You would never believe how reasonable it it too!!!

Great slice of Italy in the Heart of Buckhead

by pizzaman953 at Citysearch

“When You Come Here, You Come Home”

April 22, 2009….ATLANTA…Nestled next to Party City and Blockbuster video sits a little slice of Italy. Enter this Italian Market by day and Restaurant by night and immediately feel as if you have been whisked away from the craziness of Buckhead.

Terracotta archways with hanging vines, bistro tables, and large glass refrigerator cases welcome you to this foreign land of gastronomical delights. Freshly-prepared items for take out, lunch and dinner daily will keep you well within your budget. However, the best dinner deal around town is to bring your own wine (no corkage fee), order your food and find a table under the Romanesque arches.

A petite Italian woman looks up and says “Boungiorno”; a tall handsome man waves his hand and yells “Ciao”. Mama Henrietta, who arrived in Atlanta 22-years-ago from Palermo says “We cook here the same way we cook at home.” Her son, Marcello, who owns and operate the market says, “When you come here, you come home.”

Specialties here are not seen anywhere else in the city: hot and mild Italian sausage flown in weekly from Brooklyn; buttery crostini -- the perfect accompaniment to their creamy hummus; pork cured with rosemary -- a must on the fresh ciabatta rolls! plus taboulli, caprese and caponnata salads. Nothing is mass produced: choose from home-made cabbage and bell peppers stuffed with recipes passed down through the ages; luscious chicken, Florentine, Bolognese, seafood or sausage lasagna; large stuffed jumbo ravioli (lobster, beef or portabella); cannelloni filled with the perfect combination of veal and beef; plus pastas dishes of every desire…may we suggest fettuccini béchamel. Oh…and don’t forget the gelato, cookies, sorbet and famous cannoli!

While you wait for Marcello to warm and plate your choices, savor the grilled ciabatta bread with herb dipping oil while Mama Henrietta uncorks and pours your wine. As Marcello likes to say, “You bring the wine and we’ll take care of the rest.”

Come “home” to Buckhead Italian Market and enjoy cooking at its best during lunch or dinner at affordable prices.
