Editorial Review for Park Cafe – by Jennifer Olvera

In Short
Nestled into the historic Knox house on the Town Green, this cozy spot cooks up down-home dishes with a Southern influence. Choose from fried green tomatoes, lump crab cakes with roasted red pepper remoulade and honey dill Caesar salad as well as grilled pork chops topped with Coca-Cola red-eye gravy, duck confit and chicken Milanaise.

I have lived right down the street from the Park Cafe for the past 3 years and have been dying to try it. Grandma took the baby for the night so that my boyfriend and I could enjoy a night out. Finally, I get to dine at this cute & cozy little restaurant that I've been eyeing in downtown Duluth. The atmosphere is awesome! I love restaurants located in historic houses or in historic downtowns. Upon entering, the host asked if we had reservations. We said we didn't & they still sat us. We even got to choose which table to sit at. We, of course, chose to sit outside since it was a nice night. The menu was short & sweet. My boyfriend had the chicken and mac n' cheese and I ordered the pork chops w/ sweet potato gnocci. The food was mouth-watering! I paced myself and tried to save some to take home & savor later (also so I could save some room for dessert). Everything about the restaurant was great, except for the waitress. I don't know if she was just new or if she thought we weren't high class enough to dine there, but we felt ignored by her all night. First, she didn't offer us any bread like the other waiters did w/ their tables. Then, she didn't let us know of their daily specials or come check on us once our meal was serverd. After we were done eating, she immediately brought us our check w/o even bothering to ask if we would be interested in some desserts or coffee. Finally, it took her a good while to even come back to pick up our check. Needless to say, we did not leave her a good tip. If I were solely rating this restaurant on their food or atmosphere, I would've given them 5 stars. However, I feel that service makes up a large part of the dining experience. It's sad to say since this is a classy restaurant, but I've had better service at Chili's.

Pros: Fantastic food and romantic atmosphere

Cons: Bad service

I never take the time to review anything. But I felt compelled to write about this little known restaurant tucked into Downtown Duluth. The food was absolutely delicious.... even down to the rolls! The fried green tomatos were possibly the best I have ever had... highly recommend. I had the roasted chicken breast atop creamy 'mac and cheese'. Two words: yumm - y. The service was wonderful - Jamie was our waitress. We are definitly coming back to try out their brunch. GO TO THIS RESTAURANT.

Pros: Food, service, atmosphere - patio, wine list

Cons: Not a one.

This restaurant with a wine and cheese shop is the place to visit for breakfast, lunch and dinner--and a bottle of vino to go.  See the full editorial review.
