Editorial Review for Shorty's – by Jennifer Soong
The Scene
With a small, easy-to-miss sign, Shorty's sits at the end of a strip mall in Toco Hills. Neighborhood diners pack the casual eatery, sometimes spilling out to the front patio, and a lively vibe pervades the family-friendly establishment. Inside, you'll find seating with wood tables and stools lining a skinny bar with two flat-screen TVs. Service is friendly, but you may need to flag your waiter down occasionally.
The Food
The pizzeria's menu features surprisingly tasty starters such as fresh guacamole served with flatbread and caprese salad with plump tomatoes and mozzarella drizzled with olive oil. But the real stars are the signature thin-crust pizzas named after rock personalities: Sid Vicious is meat-centric; Tina Turner has walnut toppings. The Wu Tang Clan wows with bits of celery, buffalo chicken and blue cheese dressing. You can also design your own pizza with toppings like eggplant, caramelized onions and artichokes.

My husband and I are addicted to this wonderful place. Being real food snobs (we'll fly to the West Coast to get good "slow food), we have our favorite menu items, and always try to save room for the dessert pizza with freshly sliced applies and real homemade whipped cream. The secret to the great guacamole is that they make each serving individually....we like to sit at the bar and watch the guy make it, full of avacado chunks with the wonderful flat bread drizzled with EV olive oil! And the crabcakes are perfect! I have my favorite East Coast crabcake source (Legal Seafoods), and Shorty's cakes are just as good or better. Not too much breading, and of course you never have to ask the waitress to bring a lemon slice. (We're amazed at how many restaurants in Atlanta don't serve a lemon slice with seafood!)There's so much talk about Shorty's pizza (truly great, of course), but don't ignore the entrees like the cedar planked salmon. And we have never found any brown lettuce edges in Shorty's generous salads. Only the best and freshest ingredients is what puts Shorty's at the top of our list.
Pros: only fresh ingredients; best guacamole and crabcakes in Atlanta
Cons: none

My mom was in town from MA and I brought her here for lunch one day and she said it was some of the best pizza she's ever had - now that's a rave review. The quality of the ingredients comes through in the richness of the final product, absolutely delicious. They have a bunch of house pizzas to choose from with fun names - i get the woo tang (on the back of the bar menu) buffalo chicken with blue cheese crumbles and celery - must try!
