Editorial Review for Avra Greek Tavern – by Jennifer Soong

The Scene
An upscale Greek restaurant, Avra adds a Mediterranean flavor to Juniper's restaurant row. The converted Victorian-style house features a wooden bar near the entrance and a charming wraparound patio with antique chandeliers. Upstairs, the main dining area is refined but inviting with crisp ivory linens, dim lighting and deep red curtains. Traditional musicians entertain diners while eager servers help navigate the menu selection and wine pairings.

The Food
The extensive list of Greek classics, small plates, spreads and sides is sure to appeal to large appetites. For a dramatic flourish, order the pan-fried cheese which is fired up tableside with Ouzo. Expect generous portions of Greek salads, marinated meat kabobs and char-grilled fish. The moussaka is a hearty combination with golden-baked layers of potatoes, eggplant, zucchini and ground beef, topped with bechamel. Cap off the meal with a shot of strong coffee.

My friends and I went to Avra for their Thursday Night Ladies Night. Justin was wonderful and the General Manager - Scott was so tentive. We had the best time out in a very longtime. There was a great mix of people. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. The food was sssooooo delicious and flavorful. We love the "flaming cheese". We can not wait to go next week. Way to go Avra.

Pros: Great location, people and staff.

Cons: Ladies Night is only one day a week.

I've been to Avra a couple of times for different occasions including dinner with my visiting parents and girls night for drinks and appetizers. Each time the food has been delicious and the service amazing. The menu is full of options for vegetarians, seafood lovers, and meat-eaters alike. Bartender Juston makes you feel incredibly welcome and has some great stories to share.

Pros: friendly service

Cons: valet parking
