Editorial Review for Avra Greek Tavern – by Jennifer Soong
The Scene
An upscale Greek restaurant, Avra adds a Mediterranean flavor to Juniper's restaurant row. The converted Victorian-style house features a wooden bar near the entrance and a charming wraparound patio with antique chandeliers. Upstairs, the main dining area is refined but inviting with crisp ivory linens, dim lighting and deep red curtains. Traditional musicians entertain diners while eager servers help navigate the menu selection and wine pairings.
The Food
The extensive list of Greek classics, small plates, spreads and sides is sure to appeal to large appetites. For a dramatic flourish, order the pan-fried cheese which is fired up tableside with Ouzo. Expect generous portions of Greek salads, marinated meat kabobs and char-grilled fish. The moussaka is a hearty combination with golden-baked layers of potatoes, eggplant, zucchini and ground beef, topped with bechamel. Cap off the meal with a shot of strong coffee.

I recently had a large business function at this restaurant. It was a very nice atmosphere. But my food tasted terrible and the meat on my kabob was fatty and over cooked.. The service staff was good and so was the wine. I won't go again but if you decide to. Just go for some drinks.
Pros: Nice waitstaff
Cons: terrible food

I never really went there for the food, at best is was below average among other restaurants in the same price points and class of dining. What I did go there for was the OUTSTANDING service and inviting atmosphere that was created by Lisa Ann Taylor. I hated to hear that she was not paid for work perfomed and was blackmailed and used as what amounts to slave labor. I was well known interior designer in the Atlanta market for nine years, now alternative lifestyle sales director for one of the oldest and most respected auto dealers in Atlanta, not to mention very involved with AID Atlanta, having said this, I know a lot of people from all walks of life in the metro Atlanta area and I will make sure they are informed of the treatment of Lisa Ann and I hope they decide as I have to never take my business Arva Greek or any of there sister restaurants again. SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT PAYING LISA ANN!
