What People Are Saying About Shout

In Short – Sister restaurant to ever-popular Twist, Shout could have easily been dubbed "Flirt." The ultrahip scene attracts sexy singles to its 18,000-square-foot space, which houses a sushi lounge, intimate dining areas and several bars. Midtowners sip fruity cocktails while hipsters jockey for the best viewing tables, where they eye an eclectic menu of tapas, pizza and sushi. For a great view and VIP people-watching, head to the Miami-esque rooftop lounge complete with private cabanas.

Awkward service, mediocre food.
by bromanstein
I moved to Atlanta (Midtown) about a year ago, and since then have been exploring restaurants in the area. I went to Shout about a week ago on a date for drinks and sushi. The atmosphere was strange--overdone, pretentious, nearly empty (we arrived at 7:30 on a Thursday) and the air conditioning seemed to be off. We were then seated at a table right next to a group of men who were loud, drunk, and not very polite. Out of all the open tables, we had to sit next to three men clapping obnoxiously and shouting.
Our waitress was nervous and awkward, she clearly did not have a lot of experience, and didn't know what a lot of the items on the menu were. She would approach our table very cautiously, smiled nervously and talked under her breath. It was all very strange. On top of that, we ordered the calamari (it was alright, nothing special) and then each ordered a different type of sushi. I ordered the rainbow roll, and my date ordered something of the special menu. Our food came unexpectedly quick-- it looked good, but it was alright at best. Definitely wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to brag about. Later that evening (about 5 hours after we returned home), I began to feel very nauseous. After an hour of feeling to my stomach, I finally couldn't take it any longer and ended up in the bathroom getting sick multiple times that evening. My date, also reported feeling somewhat sick to his stomach but not nearly to the same degree (he had a few pieces of my sushi).
In conclusion, AVOID THIS RESTAURANT! What started as a fun date-night, turned into an awkward and very bad food experience. There are SO many great restaurants in Atlanta, do not waste your time or money here.
Out with Shout

I am extremely hesitant to write a less than flattering review for a restaurant as I'm well aware of the impact that it can have on the operation of the business and people's livelihood. At the same time, if a review is way off base then the free market will take care of itself and people will ignore it and the bad review will look like an outlier. With that said, I've been to Shout about a dozen times and the last few times the experience has deteriorated. On a recent visit I ordered some sashimi with my lunch which was never brought out with my meal and when I said something and was told they would take care of it - they did so by charging me for it and bringing out as our party of eight had paid the check and had our coats on and were walking out the door.
Now to today's experience which is beyond the pale. In applying baseball rules, three strikes and you're out: Strike 1) On a Monday early lunch you would think the place would be as clean as can be but apparently their version of clean is to put black napkins on top of crumb and stain filled tables (we actually moved tables and the second table was worse). This means the linens from the night before (or earlier) were still on; Strike 2) The spicy tuna mixture was gamey - I had a piece and felt sick and had to spit it out (sorry for the bad visual) - I actually smelled a second piece just to make sure I wasn't overreacted and it was bad tuna. That tells me they wrap up the tuna mixture from the nights before and don't make it fresh every day which is not just gross but flat out dangerous; Strike 3) took close to ten minutes to get a pair of chopsticks; Strike 4) when I told the manager what I ordered the first time and he said he'd bring it fresh - they actually got the order wrong and gave me smoked Salmon where I explicitly asked for Fresh Salmon which is no big deal except on a do-over I expect it right!; Strike 5) The manager walked past us no less than three times after I had gotten my new food and did not make eye contact or ask me how things were or apologize.
In full disclosure, they did take my meal off the bill, and the waitress did apologize (although she asked several times after the complaints "is everything still excellent?" which presumes things at one point where excellent and they were far from it).
Shout may survive because of its convenient location, somewhat trendy decor, and its diverse menu but if it continues down this road with dirty tables, bad sushi, and management that appears indifferent I can't say that it won't eventually lose the business lunch crowd (and other crowds) as a dining experience like this is unacceptable.
Happy to Get Caught in the Rain
by BoVicAl
After having Shout and another restaurant recommended by the concierge to be within walking distance of The W, we chose the other restaurant and headed for the corner. Just then it started raining steadily, and from our sheltered doorway we spied Shout just a few yards away. It was a great twist of fate for us, as we were dining rather early and had teenagers along. The service was awesome and personalized and the menu had a variety of offerings which addressed all of our preferences. The appetizers were fairly basic, but the sushi was great, the steak super tender, and the pork chop with cheese grits and turnip greens was heavenly. The miniature desserts made it too easy to share tastes of a few favorites as well. Hours after dinner, we were still commenting on how great the meal had been. We'll definitely return on our next trip to Atlanta!

Shout - Not so much to shout about more like crying
by T Fortune
Went to Shout to start out an evening of fun and ended up having the worst dining experience ever.
There were a total of five of us it started out great, Moscoto, Voss Waters, the infamous #2 and a Martini.
We ordered Mahi mahi, Steak, a white cheese pizza with pepperoni, crab cakes and a chicken salad.
When the white chese pizza was ordered it was requested w/o Ricotta, the steak was ordered medium and Mahi Mahi normal. The Mahi Mahi came back rubbery the steak came back extra well, as in charcoal black.
We sent the steak back it cam back seard and cold as hell in the middle. The pepperoni white cheese pizza came back with the ricotta scraped off and the pepperoni's on top. My friend was allergic to ricotta.
The manager Jim "punk ass" Davis treated us as if we ran off the plantation with all the cotton in our purses.
We told him about the pizza and showed him the ricotta and he told us that it wasn't ricotta as if no one knows what ricotta looks like. The he went to the back and got some shredded cheese and said it was ricotta. I wanted to tell him that my cousin is a Sous Chef and that I had been exposed to more than shredded cheddar. Needless to say he didn't do anything. Never apologized he was the rudest person that i've ever had to deal with. He argued with us. I have had better treatment at Wendy's.
Shout will not never get another dime of my money! That's a poor establishment business wise.
- Pros: Nice set up
