Buy a bottle, stay at home..
Beautiful lobby bar. The atmosphere tends to be a little too loud for a comfortable conversation due to the band playing at near club volume. The drinks are VASTLY overpriced and not well made. The service at the bar tables was lethargic at best and the bartenders were geriatric turtles too concerned with money rather than a classically made cocktail.
Fortunately for all of us, there are not too many places to go to in Atlanta that offer you a $14 contemptible martini, complete with repugnant service. I will go elsewhere.
Swanky cognac bar at the InterContinental is a draw for elegant travelers and local scene-seekers..
The Scene
Atlanta's glitziest hotel is home to XO, an ornate open-air bar specializing in cognacs and luring a variety of lookie-loos and well-heeled guests for after-hours libations. An ornate gilded wood bar lines one wall with a few round tables and scattered comfy leather chairs. Vivid frescos and a cut-glass chandelier remind drinkers of a lavish French chateau and reflect the theme of the adjacent bistro-style eatery and raw bar, Au Pied de Cochon.
The Draw
This chi-chi spot is miles above its Buckhead neighbors--a first-class retreat after sightseeing or the corporate grind. The days-long drink menu features specialty XO cognacs ranging from the affordable $18 Martell Cordon Bleu to the less-affordable $375 Hardy Perfection. For lighter wallets, gracious bartenders mix specialty cocktails and serve from a light menu of Russian caviar, foie gras and delectable desserts.
What's Up? Not Here!. After putting the final touches on our holiday gifts today at Phipp's Plaza, we decided to have a well-deserved drink at the Intercontinenal Hotel. Beautiful lobby, and very stunning bar. But honestly, the people hanging around the bar seemed very shady, and made us feel very uncomfortable. This is the kind of place that attracks people who are obviously, out to impress all those around them, with ultra-gaudy player jewelry, poor communication skills, and no respect to where they are, or the other patrons. Bartenders seem to take everything in stride, hoping for that ultra big tip, from those that have more money in their pockets, than CENTS! We will not lower ourselves to come back here. Too many nices places in Buckhead, with REAL nice people.
elegant scene.
One of the most elegant bar scene in Atlanta. Jazz trio almost every day. it is such a confortable lounge. the terrace is one of the best spot on Peachtree to enjoy a glass of Rose wine in a sunny afternoon. The best to see is their incredible collection of cognacs. I heard it is the largest in the US.
I went last thursday for the $5 martini night, we had the best time! I was also glad that the hotel restaurant, Au Pied de Cochon is open 24hours. We were able to enjoy a delicious onion soup at 3am!
A cognac-lover's dream!. The wall behind the bartender is covered with cognac as far as the eye can see. The bartender was friendly, professional and courteous. The live jazz trio was excellent. If you get hungry, walk across the lobby to Au Pied de Cochon, a 24-hour restaraunt also in the lobby of the InterContinental.
