In Short – The cozy cafe has filled a niche for coffee and wine connoisseurs, featuring an smorgasbord of flavors. The house coffee, Selva Negra, is grown by the owner's parents in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Other favorites include Brazil Yellow Bourbon and Sumatran Kebayakan. The wine list offers more than 100 varieties, and the knowledgeable staff can help navigate the choices. Assorted cheese plates and snacks round out the menu. Tea and sweets are also on tap.
Coffee and Wine...what more could you want?
by tafkap4d
My office building recently lost a Starbucks and we NEED (no, I need) a coffee shop.
We headed to Java Vino on a Thursday and found it to be almost empty. We looked over the menus and had a hard time deciding on what we wanted because everything looked amazing.
We settled on a cheese plate, hummus and chicken salad sandwich with wine. I felt as if I was in HEAVEN. Fresh, fast and delicious. We polished off our evening with dessert, coffee and a sample of a dessert wine.
The wait staff was friendly and anticipated our needs. They even started a tab for us.
The parking was easy, the space neat and bright with appropriate music and WiFi connection.
I cannot think of a better combination!
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: the picture of the snake in the Ladies Restroom
My favorite coffee/wine bar

Java Vino has the best wines, the best desserts, the best teas, the best coffee, and the best food of all the coffee shops I've been to in Atlanta.
- Pros: Great wine, great atmosphere, and great background music
- Cons: Closes at 11AM on Mondays
Daycare vs. Winebar
by pmsacks
I noticed all the reviews were from 2005 except the most recent was from 2006. I've been to JavaVino a number of times during the past couple of years and really liked it. It seems to be far less up-scale than in the past. The owners seem to be running the bar and house together. The kids were all over...a wine bar is not a place I wish to see kids around. Also it doesn't seem to be as well maintained. The bathroom sink was filthy. I had to tell a worker there was no papertowels twice - an hour apart. And no soap in the bathroom. I remember a far nicer place to go for a drink. I won't be hurrying back.
