Average food, a bit expensive, good service

Fishmonger is located inside an old bank building. They did a nice job of redecorating and making it into a cozy restaurant. There is a small bar off to the left as soon as you enter, and the main dining room is to the right. As the name implies, fish is the house specialty. As I don't like seafood, I opted for the pecan encrusted chicken with mashed potatos and zuccini. The chicken was good and juicy. The pecans added a subtle flavor. It came with some kind of white sauce not listed on the menu that I could never quite figure out what it was. The mashed potatos were average, and the zuccini was a bit limp. One friend got the swordfish and really enjoyed his dish except for the mashed potatos. My other friend got the crab cakes he had been craving all day. Entree prices were under $20 for the most part, but I thought they were a few dollars overpriced for the quality of the food. $15 chicken better wow me, not just be ok. Fishmonger had a decent wine and beer list although we did not order any alcohol. When the host (possibly the owner) seated us, he realized the table was not ready. We akwardly stood there while he wiped it down and brought silverware. Service was attentive after that. The best little server was 14 and appeared to be the owner's son. He made one faux pas by trying to pour us water before we had glasses, but he was so cute we laughed it off.
- Pros: Friendly Service, Decor, Easy Parking
- Cons: Food Quality for Price

We tried this restaurant for the first time last week and I dont know which I was more impressed with the food or the service. Our waitress (can't recall her name - Michele maybe or Melissa?) gave us wonderful recommendations for both food and wine. She recommended the african prawns which were AMAZING, and the wine she recommended really made the flavors pop. Our entire party was impressed with the food, even our friend from London said that the fish and chips were incredible "just as good as home". I highly recommend this establishment - you will not be disappointed!
- Pros: Food quality and service
- Cons: Parking
Worth a visit - you'll want to go back

My family has been dining at Fishmonger since just after it opened. We've enjoyed oysters and a beer after work, many dinners or a variety of small plates before a night at the movies, etc. and we often take out of down vistors there. We have always had a wonderful experience. Fishmonger offers a nice selection of very fresh fish specials and a variety of other seafood entrees as well as amazing lamb and an exceptional filet. The calamari is some of the best we have ever had and we travel and dine out quite a bit. The atmosphere is perfect for anything from a casual dinner with a co-worker at the bar to a romantic evening in the dining area. The staff is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The owner almost always speaks to us and is quick to make sure we are satisfied. I recommend this restaurant to anyone and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
- Pros: fresh seafood, good atmosphere, great staff
- Cons: not open for lunch
