Editorial Review for Mitra – by Tony Ware
The Scene
Part Dwell magazine design inspiration, part rustic hacienda, Midtown's sister restaurant to Duluth's Sia's stands out amid the sprawling early 20th-century mansions of Juniper Street. The space, which has two levels of seating, a bar and a patio, is swathed in sunset hues. Spicy colors, curved wrought-iron furnishings and sensual Fernando Botero paintings add to the bold, playful atmosphere.
The Food
The Latin-American inspired menu is as colorful and as well-designed as the decor. Starters like goat cheese fritters in pomegranate sauce, flaky lamb empanadas and lemony blue crab cakes accompanied with crunchy daikon get better with each bite. Entrees of tender skirt steak paired with a buttery cayenne-and-maple tinged sweet potato puree, succulent "pull-apart pig" and fragrant, perfectly balanced paella are just as impressive. Desserts, especially lava cake and coffee flan, are dense, rich and decadent.

This is a classy restaurant. With a red dark interior, it gives off a "romantic" feel almost. The restaurant was open late when I first went there. Started off with some appetizers and shared a meal with my date. The food was good, and for a late night, the service was also exceptional.
Pros: location, service, decorations
Cons: darkness, bathrooms...

I've been going to Mitra for years and I have to say I have never been disappointed. The decor is chic and everyone is always really friendly. The food is always first class. My favorite is the calamari with all these different sauces I'll never remember the names to. If you're looking for a place with great food, adorable drinks and a fantastic atmosphere I highly recommend Mitra on Juniper. Its a rare gem hidden away in Midtown.
Pros: Always great service and food
