High Class Red Lobster. Food...it was alright...some of it was very good...some of it was chain seafood quality. If they always have fresh fish I would expect better. Doesn't share the same breath as Papaduex in Gwinnett which still isn't the best seafood resturant I have eaten at. The wait staff was obnoxious. They didn't really care much about my party and at times came across very rude. I wouldn't go back. It was pricey and I can get a better meal from a place that I don't have to pay 12 dollars in parking.
Romantic Dinner. I took a good freind there as a Birthday treat!!! He loved it down to the weird tasting onion rings also known as Calamari. I just couldnt tell him at the time especially after the it's not like we are eating squid or anything comment. They have live music. The pianist sounded just like Elton John. It was a little crowded as we went on a Friday right after work. The service was great. It is a great 1st date place. It is romantic.I prefer Ray's on the River being from Long Island. I love to overlook the water. If in the Mid & downtown area just stop in you wont regret it.
Great Martini's, Good Sushi, and Half-Shell Bar! Excellent Service!. Last weekend, I had to meet a client about new office space at the 191 Peachtree Tower. We needed to have a drink, and went across the street to Ray's In The City. I must admit, knowing where to go Downtown, is a puzzle to me. But this seafood house, helped seal the deal for me. We started at the bar, while waiting for a table. Ordered martini's, and the bartender, I believe his name is Mike, put on a show, making martini's the way they are supposed to be shaken. And did that little guy ever shake them. They were perfect. He was so darn nice, we just stayed at the bar, had oysters on the half shell, and some terrific sushi. If you ever have the pleasure to be downtown on buisness, stop into Ray's! Very nice.
wait staff is a toss up, dont come starving. Parking was somewhat of a challenge. Had reservations for 2 o'clock. Were not seated until 2:30, leaving the impression that patrons who arrived after us were seated first. We were there for the Sunday brunch special (Easter). The selection was puzzling i thought. To many forms of salmon in the buffet. The wait staff seemed to struggle with their idenity. Do we want to be so helpful that we are annoying or so rude that it seemst hat you are interrupting their routine. Overall the experience was good, but could use some fine tuning considering price ($32 a plate).
This got a 9.5???.
I'll say this much -- it looks good. The presentation of the dishes is about the only visual that outclasses the decor. However, neither was able to offset:
- Getting my "seared rare" (the waiter asked me how I wanted it) tuna steak not only cooked medium instead, but COLD.
- Having my table bumped and badly shaken by two separate waiters twice.
- Having the waiter come back with my credit card and receipt to sign, but leave the very large, empty dinner plate in front of me, so I could rearrange it all myself on the small table in order to put the pen to paper.
- Getting food dropped on my portfolio.
As much as I wanted to like my lunch experience, the service was amateurish at best. The waiter also gets the fault on not having the tuna seared rare as asked - I could tell he wasn't listening to anyone but himself speak.
Who's to blame for daring to serve a medium-cooked meal air-conditioner cold? Don't know, but there's no excuse for it.
I'll drop anywhere between $25 and $50 on a meal for good food with no complaint. But I won't do it for poorly prepared food and poor service, even if the visuals are 10 out of 10. Won't be going back - except (maybe) to the sushi bar.
8/10/07 Update! Great View, Good Food, Great Value! Fresh Fish-Daily Menu!. Being a native Atlantan, I've become dismayed at the demise of downtown restaurants. But alas right in Peachtree Center, facing Peactree at street level, is a little gem. Mostly tourists, but a few of us locals, enjoying ourselves without having to go all the way to Buckhead for decent seafood. Food is good and fresh, excellent prices, and very attentive service. Of course I've had seafood at higher prices, but being able to be seated on Peachtree, and watch our beautiful city go by, was a rare treat! Fresh Fish Menu daily! 8/8/07-Update. I just finished working the Atlanta International Gift Market, and decided to go in for a drink. Met one of the nicest, most personalble bartenders, Mike May, and he really made my day. Great conversation, nice guy. I didn't know Ray's even had Sushi. But Mike showed me the way. Downtown is coming back, and this place is a great place to start.
Just so so.... This dinner experience was our final evening on visiting the City of Atlanta. We had no trouble finding it and used the MARTA right across the street to get there. Food was average to taste and price and value was not what we had expected. We will try it again next time we visit to be fair in making our final rating.
overated. This place does not live up to its reputation I can not understand why there is a crowd there
Great for vegetarians, too!. WOnderufl addition to the downtown restaurant scene. The seating area looks out onto Peachtree, the streetscape is definitly fun and can be entertaining. I am vegetarain (REALLY, which means I do not eat fish), but I really enjoy the vegetarian dishes that the chef can make. They can readily make a pasta or stir-fry dish, both of which are absolutly delicious. The service is lacking.
Average meal, not a great seating area. I thought this place would have a classy seating area for dinner instead in looked like Denny's booths. If you like to stare out into the streets and look at the scenery you might think the ambiance is great. The bar area is nice with live music. Food to me was average but I got kind of a boring meal the seafood platter ( crab mixture terrible, forgot the scallops, lobster small and weak, salmon definetly not Yukon). I like Rays on the River better for food. My girlfriend got the Mahi- and she loved it, but then again she is not much of a complainer when I take her out. Also, why does the fish tank make you dizzy when you look at it. I had a 55 gallon tank and I would never get dizzy looking into it.
