Editorial Review for Ray's in the City – by Elisabeth Bergman
The Scene
The front dining room of this sibling to Ray's on the River has huge plate-glass windows that provide a cool sunken view of Peachtree Street. The back room features a tank of crustaceans, a sushi bar and a glittery bar with hanging plasma TVs. Conventions and tourism are the restaurant's bread and butter, but the reasonably priced fare and exuberant service brings a few locals into the mix.
The Food
The menu, which changes daily, lives up its fresh seafood billing. The waitstaff states that fish is delivered five times a day--guaranteed never out of the water for more than 48 hours. The broiled seafood platter features buttery lobster tail and Atlantic salmon. Selections from the raw bar change daily and showcase oysters and clams from disparate coasts. Sushi standards are just as fresh and a lightly seared tuna tataki is reason enough to make that trip downtown.

Dinner on 10/20/2008. It was a Monday night at 8 pm and the place was busy. Short wait. Of course its a little pricey, but for the quality and service, its fair. Bar service was very good. Table service was professional, friendly and attentive, not "hovering". Our waiter was attending a group of about 15, but we never felt neglected. Food was excellent. Well prepared and presented. Desserts were outstanding. Definitely recommended. First time review motivated by excellent experience. Not related to the business in any way.
Pros: Wait service was well trained, friendly, and attentive.
Cons: A little pricey, but for a good meal well served, can be overlooked.

My wife and I were nervous about going in. The front of the place is very deceiving..We got sat at a booth in the bar area and again were not feeling happy. Being our 17th anniversary wanted something romantic. When our server Lee Ann greeted us not only with a wonderful smile but her great compassion and knowledge; we then were enjoying a special occasion. She made sure that our day was noticed doing what ever she could (telling her our story to a manager). The food was great, atmosphere could have been better, but service made the difference.. Thank you.. Mark Hankey
Pros: service
Cons: first impression
