Editorial Review for Australian Bakery Cafe – by Suzanne Wright
The Scene
With a chirpy "G'day ladies and mates," you are greeted by the smiling, ruddy-faced owner and his cohorts. The decor is bare bones, save for the photomural of the Sydney Opera House and some Olympic paraphernalia, but the vibe is so amiable, you'll want to linger. Order at the counter, admire the pastry case and grab a seat near the windows overlooking the East Atlanta streets.
The Food
Forget pot pies, these meat pies are addictive. Of the dozen or so, the savory steak and kidney with poppy-seed crust takes top prize; the curry lamb, a close second. Save room the sweets. Sherry-kissed, spicy fruit mince is loaded with currants and raisins. Bar-like cherry ripe slice looks like Neapolitan ice cream with its cherry, coconut and chocolate layers. The lamington, a springy sponge cake dipped in chocolate and covered with finely shredded coconut, is a true delight.

You can't go wrong here! The meat pies are awesome and so are the lamingtons. The best stuff is the candy. You have to try the "Tim Tams" and "freddo frogs." The Australian Bakery in Marietta is also great!
Pros: great food
Cons: candy is a little pricey since it is imported.

I don't know what the other reviewer was smoking but my pie and sausage roll wasn't nuked or soggy! It was the best I've ever tasted. A true joy in Atlanta!
