“The tomatillo green is a great salsa for flavor; and the tomatillo red is finally something spicy in Hotlanta.”
“My first visit , I got the chicken burrito which began with a huge scoop of WHITE rice and a small rationing of the remaining fillings.”
Tacos and burritos are custom-made with fresh ingredients at this industrial-chic Mexican chain..
In Short
Boasting a sleek decor of blond wood, raw steel and exposed pipes, this taqueria hums with conversation and an eclectic mix of piped-in salsa, rock and reggae. Patrons--mostly on-the-go professionals and parents with kids in tow--line up at an assembly-line style counter for hard and soft tacos or burritos (regular, fajita-style or without the tortilla) made with fillings like grilled chicken or steak, free-range pork or shredded beef.
Taco Beetle; Menacing Manager. My close friend is a manager at Chipotle. He holds a great deal of pride in his work, in his company. Recalling this while finding myself hungry and stuck in 5 o'clock traffic on Piedmont Road, I slid off the grid and walked in for my first visit to this fast food Mexican restaurant. I ordered three chicken tacos and a Dos Equis. They were delicious. I gobbled them heartily until my pace slowed by the third one, which was a godsend. From layers of rice, cheese and lettuce crawled a healthy, happy beetle about as long as my little toe. It was difficult to explain the situation to a wayward staff member walking by my table as he spoke no English. Apparently, the only person in the restaurant with such a rare linguistic skill in America as English-speaking was the manager. All I could make of her from behind was her blond ponytail as she vehemently explained to the Spanish-speaking horde around her behind the counter: "You better tell her that we will NOT refund the beer." Alarmed that after finding a live insect in my food anyone in a restaurant managerial capacity would select word choices that described what would NOT be done for the customer, I decided to speak up. "I don't need anyone to tell me what will NOT be done today. When I find a beetle in my food, a refund is the only thing I want to hear about." Twenty-year-olds with managerial powers do not appreciate being taught about tactful management by beetle-wary customers. So this wet-eared quota-satisfier one-upped me by telling me that my tone was way out of line and that there was no need for profanity. When did "beetle" become a four-letter word? What indeed is happening with the English language and popular refusal to consume insects in America? I advise Mexican food lovers in a hurry to take their profane rights to refuse beetle consumption anywhere but Chipotle.
Upscale Taco Bell. Chipolte....with a name like that you would think they knew what they were doing. My first visit , I got the chicken burrito which began with a huge scoop of WHITE rice and a small rationing of the remaining fillings. I should have stopped them at the rice. My thoughts.... never again! Then I went to get a burrito for someone else and saw that corn was a filling option, so I gave it a second chance. Lesson learned.....never deviate from my first mind . Got a burrito bowl with no tortilla, no tortilla? Had to pay for chips (what?) . Moe's is even better although their meat is dry and chips are stale. Willy's is REAL MEXICAN FOOD, with chips and tortilla included in the price of the burrito + a salsa bar . My advice , save your money or go to Taco bell if you want a comparable experience.
It's a good burrito on the go.. I like Chipotle Grill's burritos. Chicken burritos that is. I have tried the steak burritos and for those of you who don't like to see pink in your beef, stay away from the steak. In fact, the two times I have tried the steak it had a "flesh" taste to them. Ugh. Now, the chicken is good. I still can't believe that they made the #1 pick for burritos. They are good, but not for #1 in my opinion. If you want some rockin' fresh unique burritos try Raging Burrito.
Moe and Willy should be scared silly. Good to see the best burritos in America making it to Atlanta! The barbacoa and carnitas are first class. The tomatillo green is a great salsa for flavor; and the tomatillo red is finally something spicy in Hotlanta. Guac rocks too!
McMexican.
This is McDonald's attempt at fresh-mex. If you don't see the irony in this, then you will probably enjoy this mass-produced chain food. Think the McDLT in a hip environment.
From the time you enter, everything is wrong. The menu reads from right to left - great for an Asian concept restaurant, but confusing to Western diners. The rice was more of a jasmine rice than Mexican and the salsa choices were runny and bland.
Save your money and stick to the McNuggets. Now with more chicken!
