Washington Mutual Not Trustworty. I tried banking with WaMu when I first moved to Georgia. It was a nightmare. They initially told me they would hold my first deposit for ten days, but they held it for 25. They said direct deposit payroll would be available immediately. They held it for ten days. When I asked, I was assured that was only for the first month. After the first month, they continued to hold my direct deposit for ten days. They posted debits before deposits every night, generating numerous over-drafts. I had overdraft protection, and they drained my savings by charging a $10 fee for every item, instead of the one transfer on that day. We had a check card that was supposed to be free, but they charged us $3 every time we used it, whether we used it as an ATM card or as a Credit card. They charged me every time I called to ask for information, and another .50 when I visited a teller. Boy was it surprise when I got my statement. They went through $2000 of my money in six weeks with fees. I asked to see the manager and was told there wasn't one present. So I raised my voice a bit and again asked politely to see the manager. After two more requests, she called a manger in from a back room. When I confronted the manager, he said it was Georgia banking regulations to hold deposits for 10-25 days, charge for transactions, etc. etc.

I politely asked him to close my account, and he called the security officer over and threatened to have me arrested. By the time I left there with the 10.50 still in the account (I had stopped the direct deposits by this time), he had threatened me by saying I would not be allowed to open an account anywhere else because he was going to put my name on a list all the banks used to decide whether to do business with customers. A customer black list? I give WaMu no stars and question why they haven't been shut down by regulators.

Washington Mutual ATM fees need to be closely monitored!. I recently used Washington Mutual's ATM on Piedmont Road in Atlanta to withdraw $40.00. I accepted the identified fee of $2.00 for use of the ATM (I do not have an account with WaMu). When reviewing my bank statement 2 days later, I noticed the following withdrawals: $2.00 WaMu debit followed by a $2.00 WaMu debit followed by a $42.00 WaMu debit. I called customer service (good luck finding the appropriate # to be connected...) only to have the 'customer service? representative state there had been a $2.00 fee for displaying my account balance added to the $2.00 fee for the withdrawal transaction. I don't agree with separate transaction fees for providing the balance and a 'fast cash' withdrawal, but whatever.... When I asked for an explanation of the remaining $2.00 fee, I was told she had no idea and I would need to take that up with my bank. Thanks for the great service WaMu!
