“Good food and fun, casual atmosphere.”
“i.e. where one eats, drinks, enjoys GREAT Greek and Middle Eastern-Mediterranean music, dances and parties with friends!”
“The food is average, the atmosphere bland, and the service staff awful.”
“My boyfriend & I are vegetarian, so there wasn't much on the menu for us, but I would recommend the Greek salad.”
“Plaka is a great place for large parties on Friday and Saturday nights.”
“While the food was decent and the restaurant was a fun experience, we nor our friends or family will ever come back.”
“We saw our server maybe once or twice and when she finally got around to it, she brought out mediocre food that we all half-finished.”
“probably won't go here again, just b/c I could spend less money and have a quiet dinner at a restaurant whose food I like more; but it was for my friend's bday and whatever made her happy was good with me that night.”
“Our waiter was missing for 30 minutes, orders were wrong and we had to pay full gruitity.”
Love Plaka!. I went to Plaka for the first time with a group of about six friends. We must have gotten there before peak hours because there was no one else in our seating area but the night crowd started to arrive as we were leaving. Our waiter was very friendly and energetic and all the food was fresh and delicious. Great ambience, fun atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone.
bad service but great music. We moved from new york a year ago, and we used to go always out to mediterranean places, we thought that plaka would be the same, but we were wrong. IS ALL FAKE. the food, the service, managers, rudeeeeeeeeee exept the music, is the only thing mediterranean there . dj arti great job, good guy!
Fun. Good food and fun, casual atmosphere. Friendly waitstaff. They have small plates for sharing and large entrees, too. Great for groups, but you may want a reservation on busy nights.
worst experience ever. Food is good, but the service was horrible!! It's a fun place, but the managers were extremely rude! Our waiter was missing for 30 minutes, orders were wrong and we had to pay full gruitity. I will never go back again!!!
Mediocre food and not great service. Very very bad food, everything tasted overcooked or old, the complimentary hummus was ok, but I feel sick nothing was worth comming back from, find another place to eat Greek food. The service was ok. There was a very average belly dancer (my partner used to work for a morrocan restaurant were they really had some amazing belly dancers) but she never came to our table, maybe we didn't look like big tippers!.
Disappointed Before Leaving the House!. Our bad experience happened before we even got to the restaurant. I made reservations this past week at 7:00 as recommended by the lady on the phone. We had 8 people who were going to be there. Right before I left tonight, I called the restaurant to see if they could seat 10 people at our table since another couple decided to join us. They informed me that the reservation was for 9:45, not 7:00. The nighttime manager got on the phone to tell me there was nothing she could do for me...we were out of luck even tho it was their fault. She was not apologetic and was rude. SO...my recommendation IF you decide to go there is to call every night to make sure they don't switch YOUR time! I don't think it is worth the drive to get there...we found a much nicer restaurant that was very accomodating and polite!!!
Awful Service. From the beginning of entering the restaurant, my friends and i were greated rudely. The restaurant manager specifically was completely unprofessional and rude. When we were finally seated, the service was awful even though the restaurant was not even that busy. The food was good but it was not worth the awful service or the high prices. I would not recommend this restuarant to anyone. Awful place!!
I have been to Taverna Plaka a total of 4 times and have had widely different experiences each time. The first two times I went the experience was great. The food was excellent and so was the service. The third time I went was with a large group for a friend's birthday. My experience that time was absolutely terrible. The waitress was rude and most of the dishes she brought out were incorrect. She gave us two plates of one item when we had only ordered one. She then tried to charge us for the 2nd plate. After much arguing (the waitress actually yelled at us and stormed off), we had a manager come over who wasn't any nicer. That's when the waitress suddenly had an epiphany and remembered that we had not ordered the 2nd plate. She apologized and bought us all drinks as a way of saying "I'm sorry" but it was too little too late and we had already turned sour to Taverna Plaka. I went again a few months ago with some friends. The food was excellent as always but once again the service was poor. Our server was moonlighting as a bartender at the same time so he was hardly ever at our table.
I rate this place as average since I've had two good experiences mixed in with two bad experiences.
Went for a Birthday. I went to TP last night for my friend's bday. I had read the reviews on here before and was afraid our service would be bad. I agree that it was sporadic, but our waitress came around pretty often and seemed like she was having a good time. I probably won't go here again, just b/c I could spend less money and have a quiet dinner at a restaurant whose food I like more; but it was for my friend's bday and whatever made her happy was good with me that night. My boyfriend & I are vegetarian, so there wasn't much on the menu for us, but I would recommend the Greek salad. The other reviewer was right on about the red pepper dip - it tasted just like pimento cheese - so in other words, not very good. If you are dining w/ people who enjoy a loud, fun atmosphere, then go here. But if you think your guests would rather have a quiet meal, this is definitely not the place. Plus the food was not all that great for the price. My current favorite restaurant is Fuego off of Crescent, where you can get a much cheaper meal with much more flavor.
This is my second time at TP, the first time I wasnt sure Id come back.. although the service was attentive and friendly, the food.. well.. it was just .. ok.. I landed up going there again this week and the food this time was much much better!! did they change the chef????
Since I come from that part of the world.. Im quite picky when it comes to Greek food.. but, really, the 2nd time was nice and tasty. The service remains excellent!
I would recommend going there mid-week as weekends is a bit crazy.
Btw, whats up with belly dancing?? not very Greek and a little irritating when people stop eating and start staring .. well.. not my cuppa tea!
