Tips for Royal Floors

Please think twice. I had my carpet installed by Royal Floors back in 2006. About a year later, my carpet started buckling. It has continued to buckle and now is buckled beyond belief. To make a long story short, and for a few reasons, I was out of pocket until this year. I called Royal Floors and spoke w/the owner who offered to re-stretch my carpet at 1/2 price but was insistant on my not calling Mohawk to ask why it would have happened. He said he would. He tried to tell me it was b/c I bought cheap carpet (it wasn't). I decided that it would be in my best interest to call Mohawk so I did - found out that 99.9% of the time carpet does this, it's b/c it wasn't installed correctly (i.e. no use of a power stretcher & not taking all the furniture out of a room which BOTH of those were true - I was home when they installed the carpet). When the owner called me and I told him that I had called Mohawk & related what they said while telling him I KNEW it was true b/c I was home when they put the carpet in, he started SCREAMING AT ME and said that he refused to do business with me. He then hung up on me. I don't care if the carpet is 6 months or 6 years old - he should have fixed it at no cost to me b/c it was installed incorreclty to begin with. On top of it, to scream at a customer & hang up is unacceptable to me.

Don't be fooled by the price. I was encouraged while workiing with the sales representitive because she significantly beat the labor and material costs for two bathrooms we were remodeling in our house by roughly 12%.

The sales person whoose job was to come out and measure no-showed the first day. She returned the next day at 8:00 to measure and we picked out the tiles the following Sunday. The showroom was nice and had a large selection of tiles. We chose a stone tile for my bathrooms.

The contractor was supposed to arrive at 10:00 on Wednesday but arrived at close to 1:00 because he had to stop at Home Depot for supplies. We expected the job to take two days so while annoying did not set us back. We agreed to meet the following day at 10:00, so I went into my office to get some work done planning to return home to meet my contractor. At 9:00 the contractor arrived wanting to start earlier. I rush home to meet him and then leave my wife to oversee the completion of the job.

When I arrived home that night, I found out that the floors had not been sealed, the baseboard work was sloppy, there was a loose bullnose tile in the guest bathroom and there were several places where the grout had fallen through and needed additional work.

I emailed the sales rep and was initially told that she would be out that afternoon to resolve my issues. wrong again, they finally came the next day to do an additional 5 hours of detail work which required an additional 3 hours of detail work.

When I finally reinstalled the commode in the guest bathroom, the floor was so unlevel that I have to have the entire thing redone, albiet from another more reputable firm.

If you have all the time in the world and don't care about quality these are your guys!

Would recommend to my friends. We used Royal Floors for all the floors in our first home and then before we moved into our present home, we had Royal Floors put in wood floors throughout. Naftali Yair has good advice and knowledge about picking wood, which is not always the case for installers or even suppliers. In our present home, I had wanted a fancy hickory wood and he convinced me that the less expensive, simpler white oak would look good-which it does. They were able to do the installation of the wood in our new house in a quick amount of time before we moved in. The jobs in both homes was excellent quality.

Pretty Wood. My wood floors are pretty. The work took longer than expected, but we had some floors refinished and some new floors installed.

Caution with this company. The selection of flooring is good. We got a sub-contractor who took too long to do the job (had another job and worked ours half days or less). I doubt that Royal Floors still uses this sub-contractor though.

Editorial Review. Company refinishes and installs wood, ceramic, natural stone, laminates and glass block flooring.
